Erdmann Leads Marauders in 75-64 Victory over Golden Eagles

(Bismarck, N.D.)– The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men’s Basketball team and the University of Mary exchanged leads six times tonight. A nine point Mary first half lead helped the Marauders to the 75-64 NSIC victory in Bismarck, N.D.
The University of Mary shot an outstanding 62 percent in the first half to take a 39-30 lead into the break. Both teams played even with the only stat differentials coming on points in the paint and second chance points. The Marauders led both categories, scoring 16 points in the paint and eight second chance points in the half. UMC’s Eli McVey (Sr, G, Princeton, Minn.) and Mary’s Eric Erdmann led all scorers with 11 points in the first half. McVey shot 3-5 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line. Erdmann shot 5-7 from the field and went 1-1 from long range.
The Golden Eagles came alive in the second half, shooting 53 percent from the field. The University of Mary cooled down to 56 percent but held off the Minnesota, Crookston rush. Erdmann scored another 11 points in the second half to lead all scorers with 22 points. McVey led the Golden Eagles with 13 points and four assists. Helping out offensively for UMC was Akeem Cubie (Fr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) and Bryce Cummings (So, G, Mukwonago, Wis.) who scored 12 points each. Zach Dosch and Jordan Engelhardt helped out Erdmann and the University of Mary with 13 and 12 points respectively.
The Golden Eagles drop to 5-20 overall and 2-14 in NSIC play. The Marauders move to 8-18 overall and 5-12 in the NSIC. The team finishes up the regular season next weekend at home as the team hosts Upper Iowa and Winona State on Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23. Those games are set for an 8:00 p.m. start in Lysaker Gymnasium.
