(Crookston, Minn.) – The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women’s Basketball team finished out their 2007-2008 season as they hosted Winona State University on senior recognition night at Lysaker Gymnasium. The Golden Eagle seniors Brittany Milne (Sr., G. Glendive, Mont.), Theresa Crance (Sr., F, Timber Lake, S.D.) and Bekah Fitzgerald (Sr., F, Faribault, Minn.) were all honored before tonight’s game. The Warriors didn’t let the pregame events slow them down as the team used 15 three-pointers to seal UMC’s fate 98-57.

The Golden Eagles couldn’t handle the hot shooting of the Warriors in the first half. WSU shot a staggering 77 percent in the half from long range and 71 percent overall. There were four lead changes through the first ten minutes of play until Winona State took full control of the game with a 15-4 run with four minutes remaining in the half. Winona’s Jenny Steffen shot 6-6 in the last four minutes with three of those being three-pointers to help the Warrior’s on a 15-4 run through the final 4:30 of the first half. Steffen went on to lead all scorers with 27 points going 10-11 from the field and 5-6 from long-range in just twelve minutes of play. The Warrior bench faired just as well, scoring 35 points, almost out-scoring Minnesota, Crookston. The two teams combined for a total of 17 first half three-point field goals. Minnesota, Crookston was led in the half by Gina Jaroszewski (Fr., F, Moorhead, Minn.) who scored 12 points going 4-8 from the field and 4-7 from the three-point stripe. Kelsey Van Ackeren (So., G. St. Cloud, Minn.) continued her hot shooting as she came off the bench to score eight points in nine minutes of play.

The Golden Eagles went into half-time down 63-38. The Warriors hot shooting continued throughout the second half and they ran their lead out to 40 points. The Warrior bench contributed 54 of the 98 points scored. Minnesota, Crookston’s shooting woes continued into the second session as the team shot 33 percent from the field in the game. The Golden Eagles were led by Jessica Biddle ( Jr., C, Elburn, Ill.) and Gina Jaroszewski with 12 points apiece. Van Ackeren chipped in with ten points for the game.

Tonight’s loss takes the Golden Eagles to 6-21 overall and 2-16 in NSIC play. The Warriors improve to 21-8 overall and 11-7 in NSIC action.
