(2/12/05)- Golden Eagles Win In Final Home Game The Golden Eagles got back on the winning track tonight at Lysaker Gymnasium. As the UMC seniors were honored for their efforts throughout the season and their careers, the biggest honor they received was leaving the friendly confines of Lysaker Gymnasium with a win in their last game. The Golden Eagles started out slow and trailed the Wildcats by seven at halftime 32-25. Pacing the Golden Eagles in the first half was one of those seniors, Justin Henry as he had 14 of UMC's 25 points. In the second half the Golden Eagles came out on fire and scored 56 points in the period to just 35 by the Wildcats. It was another senior who would lead UMC in the second half charge. Ahmid Palmer scored 22 points in the period as UMC took away the game. The back breaker for the Wildcats in the second half was two technical fouls that forced two of their players out of the game. Lee Roberts would be asked to shoot the free throws and would answer making three of the four. As the clock began to wind down, Wayne State began to foul, and the Golden Eagles wouldn't disappoint at the stripe, making their free throws to keep the game out of reach. Palmer finished with 24 to be the games leading scorer. Henry finished with 16, and Roberts saw double figures with his 12. The Wildcats leading scorer was Brett Cain with 14. The win is just the second in the NSIC for the Golden Eagles and gives them a conference record of 2-8, with an overall record of 6-17. The loss leaves Wayne State at 8-14 overall, and 4-6 in the NSIC. UMC will finish the regular season on the road over the next two weekends before the conference tournament opens up.

(2/11/05)- Mustangs Too Much For the Golden Eagles A close first half would not be enough tonight for the UMC Men's basketball team as they drop a decision to Southwest Minnesota State and Lysaker Gymnasium 85-71. The Golden Eagles would play the Mustangs tough in the opening period and head into the break down just two at 40-38. UMC would have the lead several times in the half behind the shooting of Jon Smith and Ahmid Palmer. The two would finish with 11 and 10 points respectively leading the Golden Eagles. Justin Henry dominated the boards going into the break already with 10 rebounds, five of which were offensive to help give the Golden Eagles second chances. In the second half the Mustangs would run away and take the game. The Golden Eagles were outscored 45-33 in the second half. Jon Smith would finish as the game's leading scorer with his 21. Leading the charge for the Mustangs were Matt Fletcher and Andy Wiersma who each finished with 18. Justin Henry had a huge night on the boards finishing with a 19, tying the record he set last year. (2/5/05)- UMC Can't Get Past Bemidji State The Golden Eagle men's basketball team continues to search for a formula that will get them over the hump to close out the 2004-05 season. The team has gotten close to beating numerous quality teams this season but can't find a way to close the deal as they have lost 11 games by 10 points or less. The team looked to reverse this trend as they traveled to Bemidji State to take on the Beavers who are tied for first in the NSIC. The Beavers opened the game as they have for most of the season shooting 56% from the field to UMC's 39%. Alvin Muse and Duane Fields both scored in double digits for the Beavers in the first half to open up a 13 point lead at the break 46-33. UMC outplayed BSU in the second half 46-42 but the first half lead was too much to overcome as UMC fell 79-88. Both teams had four players that scored in double-digits on the night. UMC falls to 5-15 overall and 1-7 in the NSIC. BSU improves its record to 13-8 overall and 7-1 in the NSIC.
