(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Softball program will start its fall season on Monday, August 31. The team will have two weeks of practice before traveling to Grand Forks on Sunday, September 13 to play Valley City State University and the University of North Dakota. First pitch is scheduled for noon against VCSU and 4 p.m. against UND at Apollo Field. On Sunday, September 27 the team will host Bemidji State University in a 100-inning fundraiser at the UMC Softball Field. The game begins at 10 a.m. and the public is invited to come out and take part in the event.

The Golden Eagles return five players from the 2009 season. The team welcomes two transfers and six freshmen to the 2010 squad with the possibility of adding a couple more at semester break.

"We won't have a senior this season and with eight new players we are going to be extremely young both in age and experience at the DII level," says Head Coach Mitch Bakken. "With that being said, many of the players played club, summer or junior college softball and are now ready to take on this new challenge."

The Golden Eagles open the 2010 regular season in February and open NSIC Conference play on April 2 & 3 when the team hosts Augustana College and Wayne State College at the UMC Softball Field. First pitch against Augustana is set for 1 p.m. while a noon start is scheduled for the Wayne State Contest.
