(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Baseball Coach Chris Vito has announced changes to the 2011 Golden Eagle schedule. With the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome inoperable, U of M, Crookston lost scheduled doubleheaders against Valley City State University, Jamestown College and Mayville State University.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Lawrence, Kan. on February 26-27 for three games. U of M, Crookston will take on Jamestown College and Kansas Wesleyan University on February 26 at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. respectively. On February 27, the Golden Eagles will face Jamestown College again at 11 a.m. All three games will be nine-inning contests and will be held at Free State High School which boasts a state of the art turfed, lighted field.

"We are extremely excited to kick off our season against these teams in Lawrence, Kansas," says Coach Vito. "I want to thank Tom Hager (Jamestown College Head Coach) for pulling this together."

The games will be the season openers for both U of M, Crookston and Jamestown College. The Golden Eagles started practice on January 11.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball program will be hosting pitching clinics for players ages 13-18 the weekend of January 29-30 and February 5-6, 12-13 and 19-20. The clinics will be run by Golden Eagle Pitching Coach Nick Zawacki and Head Coach Chris Vito. They will be held in the turf room located in the U of M, Crookston Sports Center.

Sessions will include the following:

• 4 sessions over 4 weeks (Sessions run 45-60 min)
• Session size of 2 or less players
• Mound time
• Pitching mechanics overview
• Filming
• Radar Gun
• Complete Workouts to maximize your strengths and minimize your weaknesses
• Extensive velocity building exercises
• Learn new pitches
• Develop a pitching philosophy

Players may choose a time slot on either Saturday or Sunday. Sessions will run from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm, 12:30 - 1:30 pm and 1:30 - 2:30 pm on Saturday or 2:30 - 3:30 pm, 3:30 - 4:30 pm, 4:30 - 5:30 pm and 5:30 - 6:30 pm on Sunday. Individual appointments may also be scheduled.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team opens the 2010-2011 regular season on Monday, November 15 when they travel to Finlandia University for a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. (C.S.T.) in Hancock, Mich.

The Golden Eagles went 1-2 in exhibition play. They were led by Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) averaged 13.3 points per game. Larry Brown, (Jr, F, St. Paul, Minn.) who 12 points and five rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles @ Finlandia University  Monday, November 15  6:30 p.m.(C.S.T.)

The Lions open their 2010-2011 season with their game against U of M, Crookston. Finlandia University finished the 2009-2010 season with an overall record of 10-13 including a 91-72 loss against the Golden Eagles. The Lions welcome 13 freshmen to the program. No other information on Finlandia University is available.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball program will be hosting its third annual fundraiser dinner at the Crookston Eagles Club on Thursday, November 11. Cost of the dinner is $30 for either prime rib or walleye. All proceeds will benefit the Golden Eagle Baseball program.

A social will be held at 6 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. Shortly thereafter, a program will be held with special guest speaker Donald "Bucky" Burgau. Burgau is the head baseball coach at Concordia College - Moorhead and also an assistant coach with the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.

A native of Perham, Minn., Burgau will be entering his 33rd season as head coach of the Cobbers. He has amassed 612 victories including 375 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Burgau is the all-time winningest baseball coach in the history of the MIAC. A member of the Concordia College Hall of Fame, he is one of the few coaches to be inducted while still active. Burgau played at Fergus Falls Community College and North Dakota State University (NDSU) prior to coaching at NDSU for four seasons. He also coached the Moorhead American Legion Post #21 Blues for 27 seasons compiling 883 wins and leading the Blues to a fourth place finish at the 1988 American Legion World Series.

"I couldn't be more elated to have Bucky Burgau as our guest speaker," says University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Baseball Coach Chris Vito. "Very few people have done for baseball in our region what he has. In addition to being a true keeper of the game, Bucky is someone I have considered a dear friend and mentor for many years."

There will also be a 50/50 drawing and a small silent auction. One of the silent auction items is an autographed jersey from Minnesota Twins slugger Jim Thome.

The Golden Eagles travel to the University of Minnesota Duluth on Wednesday, April 28 for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against the Bulldogs. U of M, Crookston travels to Wayne State College on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2. Both doubleheaders will start at 12 p.m. in Wayne, Neb.

The Golden Eagles look to close out the 2010 campaign on a positive note. They have an overall record of 3-39 and NSIC record of 0-26. U of M, Crookston is led by Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) who is hitting .328 (42-for-128) with 18 runs batted in (RBI). David Lovly (Sr, OF, Goodridge, Minn.) is hitting .325 (40-for-123) with six RBI, 21 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. Josh Kraby (Fr, OF/3B, Glencoe, Minn.) is hitting .300 (33-for-110) with 15 RBI.

The Golden Eagles have four seniors who will see their final action. They are Lovly, Teddy Gutman (Sr, OF, Burlington, Iowa), Jordan Triestram (Sr, RHP, Shakopee, Minn.) and Nick Zawacki (Sr, RHP, Howell, Mich.).

Golden Eagle Baseball Against Bemidji State Cancelled

(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Baseball Coach Chris Vito announced this morning that the non-conference, single nine inning game at home on Monday, April 26 against Bemidji State University has been cancelled. Bemidji's conference games with Concordia- St. Paul have been moved to Sunday/Monday taking precedent over UMC's non-conference game. The game will not be rescheduled.

Golden Eagle Baseball Team to Play Three Home Games This Week

(Crookston, Minn.)- After playing seven games in each of the past two weeks, the University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team scales back on their schedule with only three games this week. The quality of the competition remains solid though as the Golden Eagles face perennial NAIA power Jamestown College in a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 20 and the University of Minnesota Duluth in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader on Wednesday, April 21. All games will be played at Crookston's Jim Karn Field. First pitch for the Jamestown College game is scheduled for 4 p.m. The doubleheader with the University of Minnesota Duluth will begin at 2 p.m.

U of M, Crookston has continued to improve its quality of play going 1-6 last week. The Golden Eagles captured a thrilling 21-13 non-conference victory at Concordia-Moorhead on Thursday. U of M, Crookston fell behind 9-0 before tying the game 11-11 with a pair of two-run homeruns in the top of the eighth inning. The Golden Eagles proceeded to explode for ten runs in the top of the ninth to gain the victory.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston has an overall record of 3-36 and NSIC record of 0-24. They are led by David Lovly (Sr, OF, Goodridge, Minn.) who is hitting .330 (37-for-112) with five runs batted in (RBI) and 20 runs scored. He also has stolen 12 bases. Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is hitting .328 with (39-for-119) with 18 RBI and 14 runs scored. Josh Kraby (Fr, OF/3B, Glencoe, Minn.) is hitting .300 (30-for-100) with 15 RBI and 14 runs scored.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team hits the road for seven games this week. The Golden Eagles face the University of Mary in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader on Wednesday, April 14 in Bismarck, N.D. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. U of M, Crookston will play a non-conference game at Concordia-Moorhead on Thursday, April 15 starting at 4 p.m. The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action with a four game series at Concordia University-St. Paul on Saturday, April 17 and Sunday, April 18. Doubleheaders begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.

U of M, Crookston holds an overall record of 2-30 and NSIC record of 0-18 after getting swept in a four game series by Southwest Minnesota State University. However, the Golden Eagles are playing much better and are led by Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) who is hitting .344 (31-for-90) with 13 runs batted in (RBI). Josh Kraby (Fr, OF/3B, Glencoe, Minn.) is hitting .276 (21-for-76) with nine RBI. David Lovly (Sr, OF, Goodridge, Minn.) is hitting .273 (24-for-88).

The Golden Eagles face the University of Mary in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheader at the UMC Baseball Field on Tuesday, April 6. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. They travel to Mayville, N.D. on Wednesday, April 7 for a single nine-inning game against Mayville State University. The non-conference game is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. U of M, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11 as they host Southwest Minnesota State University in a pair of doubleheaders. Action will get underway at 12 p.m. both days at the UMC Baseball Field.

The Golden Eagles are looking to break back into the win column after dropping a four-game set at home to Upper Iowa University last weekend. U of M, Crookston has an overall record of 2-23 and NSIC record of 0-12. They are led by Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) who is hitting .318 (21-for-66) with eight runs batted in (RBI). Reed Oistad (Fr, IF, Detroit Lakes, Minn.) has been hitting the ball well as of late. Over the 12 games he has played in, Oistad is hitting .333 (8-for-24). Teddy Gutman (Sr, OF/DH, Burlington, Iowa) is hitting .271 (19-for-70) with six RBI. P.J. Zwach (So, 3B, St. Paul, Minn.) returned to the line-up last weekend and is hitting .257 (18-for-70) with seven RBI.

The games were originally scheduled for Thursday, April 1 and Friday, April 2. Both Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) doubleheaders will start at 12 p.m. at the UMC Baseball Field.

The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 2-19 and NSIC record of 0-8. They are looking to crack back into the win column after dropping a 12-4 non-conference decision at Valley City State University on Tuesday. U of M, Crookston is led by Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) who is hitting .339 (19-for-56) with eight runs batted in (RBI).
