NSIC Announces Changes to Basketball Schedules

(Crookston, Minn.)- With recent weather conditions and travel restrictions around the region, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's and Women's basketball schedules have been adjusted for next two weekends. 

All NSIC men's and women's games scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday January 1st and 2nd have been pushed back to Monday and Tuesday, January 3rd and 4th.  The women's games on both days will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the men's games at 8 p.m. The Bemidji State University at University of Minnesota Duluth games will be played on Monday, January 3rd at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The games scheduled for Friday and Saturday, January 7th and 8th will be moved to Saturday and Sunday, January 8th and 9th. Women's games will begin at 2 p.m. followed by men's games at 4 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. The Southwest Minnesota State University at Minnesota State University games will be played on Saturday, January 8th at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.

Golden Eagle Men's Basketball Team Opens 2011 with NSIC Road Games

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team opens 2011 with a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) road games on Saturday, January 1 against Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) and Sunday, January 2 against Minnesota State University (MSU). The games tip-off at 6 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.

The Golden Eagles closed out the 2010 portion of the schedule with a thrilling 55-54 home victory over Wayne State College to pick up their first NSIC win of the season. U of M, Crookston holds an overall record of 5-4 and NSIC record of 1-4. Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) is averaging 14.1 points and four rebounds per game. Larry Brown (Jr, F, St. Paul, Minn.) is averaging 13.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game. Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) is averaging 11.4 points per game. Adam Hendricks (Sr, G, Watertown, Minn.) is averaging 10.9 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles @ Southwest Minnesota State  Saturday, January 1   6 p.m.

The Mustangs have an overall record of 5-5 and NSIC record of 2-4 after dropping a 68-66 decision to Winona State University on December 17 and a 75-74 overtime decision to Upper Iowa University on December 18. Jordan Miller is averaging 16 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Scott Roehl is averaging 14.9 points and 9.6 rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles @ Minnesota State University  Sunday, January 2   4 p.m.

The Mavericks have an overall record of 9-1 and NSIC record of 5-1 after defeating Upper Iowa University 87-72 on December 17 and 20th ranked Winona State University by an 80-74 score on December 18. MSU is ranked 16th in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) poll. They are led by Jefferson Mason who is averaging 16.6 points and seven rebounds per game. Marcus Hill is averaging 16 points per game. Cameron Hodges is averaging 12.1 points and 4.2 rebounds per game.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team opens 2011 with a road double-header against Southwest Minnesota State and Minnesota State. The Golden Eagles will play the Mustangs on Saturday, January 1 at 4 p.m. The team will return to the court on Sunday, January 2 to play the Mavericks at 2 p.m.
 
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON - (4-5, 1-4 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team hosted a pair of ranked opponents on December 17 and 18 in #16 Augustana and #10 Wayne State. UMC went 0-2 on the weekend but Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) had one of the best weekends of her career. She tallied the second highest point total in her career with 19 points to tie a game-high against Augustana. She was 3-6 from the field and a solid 12-14 from the free-throw line. Against Wayne State she led the team with 13 points. On the weekend, Eul average 16 points/game, shot 50% from the field and was 15-17 (88%) from the charity stripe. Defensively she was second on the team with eight rebounds.
 
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE- (2-8, 1-5 NSIC) Tori Fink (G, 5-7, Sr., North Fond du Lac, Wis.) led Southwest Minnesota State over the weekend averaging 20 points in two games. Fink led the Mustangs with 21 points, connecting on 8 of 14 shots, including three 3-pointers in a loss to Upper Iowa on Saturday. The senior guard started the weekend off with a 19 point performance against Winona State on the road. Fink also hit three buckets from 3-point range against the Warriors on Friday.
 
MINNESOTA STATE- (5-5, 2-4 NSIC) Senior guard Andrea Walsh set a new career-high of five steals against UIU, as Alli Hoefer would finish with a career-high of 10 points in 77-44 win over Upper Iowa. Minnesota State was knocked off by Winona State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matchup Saturday evening, 69-61. The Warriors used a 22-4 run to break a tie to give the Warriors a 46-31 cushion going into halftime.

Wayne State had the six point lead with 11:02 left in the half.  The Golden Eagles never led by more than two in the half and took a two point advantage into halftime with a 25-23 lead.  The second half was more of the same as the game went down to the wire.  Not one UMC name jumps off the stat page, but instead, everyone that was dressed this evening contributed in their own way as the Golden Eagles topped the Wildcats 55-54.
 
Minnesota, Crookston was led by Eric Dearden (G, 6-2, 185, Sr, Riverton, Utah) who earned a game-high 14 points and five rebounds. Larry Brown (F, 6-6, 185, Jr, St. Paul, Minn.) pitched in with 12 points.  Adam Hendricks (F, 6-7, 245, Sr, Watertown, Minn.) and Almer Krdzalic (G, 5-11, 155, So, Sioux Falls, S.D.) tied a game-high with three assists each. The Golden Eagles shot an impressive 51.2% from the field for the game while grabbing 29 rebounds to out rebound the Wildcats by six. UMC played strong down low tallying 34 points in the paint and 12 second chance points. Eight of nine Golden Eagles scored at least two points and grabbed at least one rebound in the contest. The Wildcats could not find an answer to the Golden Eagle defense as WSC shot just 39.5% (17-43) from the field.
 
Wayne State was led by Amry Shelby who had 13 points and three rebounds.  Ben Tasa had a game-high eight rebounds and contributed 11 points.  The Wildcats shot just 39.5% from the field for the game.
 
Minnesota, Crookston advances to 5-4 overall and 1-4 in the NSIC. Wayne State falls to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to the court on January 1 to play Southwest Minnesota State in Marshall, Minn. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Joransen_Tori10.JPG(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team hosted #10 ranked Wayne State College this evening in an NSIC match-up. The Wildcats used a 16-0 run in the first half to take a 43-25 lead into halftime. Wayne State pushed the lead up to 30 early in the second half, when the Golden Eagles made a great 18-0 run of their own and cut the lead to 11. The Wildcats responded with a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach as Wayne State prevailed 79-60.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) who scored 13 points and had three rebounds.  Tori Joransen (F, 6-0, Fr, Minnetonka, Minn) scored a career-high 12 points and contributed three rebounds.  Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So, Rosemount, Minn.) led the team with four rebounds and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So, Albertville, Minn.)  led the team with four assists.  Minnesota, Crookston was 25-58, good for 43.1%, from the field but only had six attempts from the free throw line.
 
Wayne State was 25-32 from the free-throw line and out rebounded the Golden Eagles by 12.  The Wildcats scored 38 points off turnovers while shooting 45.3% from the field.  Mara Hjelle had a game-high 15 points and game-high 19 rebounds to lead Wayne State.  Ashley Arlen was second on the team for both points and rebounds with 14 and four respectively.       
 
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Wayne State improves to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles will travel to Marshall, Minn. on New Year's Day to take on Southwest Minnesota State.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

Augustana College Downs Golden Eagle Men 81-68

The Vikings were led by Cody Schilling who scored 20 points (6-10 from the field) with three assists and three steals. Cameron McCaffrey added 18 points (5-14 from the field) with four rebounds. Trevor Hass scored 16 points (5-8 from the field). Derrick DeZeeuw pulled down 12 rebounds.

The Golden Eagles were led by Larry Brown (Jr, F, St. Paul, Minn.) who scored 21 points (8-9 from the field) off the bench. Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) added 13 points (5-14 from the field) with six rebounds. Adam Hendricks (Sr, F, Watertown, Minn.) scored 11 points (4-6 from the field). Almir Krdzalic (So, G. Sioux Falls, S.D.) added ten points (3-5 from the field).

Augustana College improves to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston falls to 4-4 overall and 0-4 in the NSIC.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, December 18 at 6 p.m. when they face Wayne State College in NSIC action.

No. 16 Augustana Uses Deep Ball to Defeat Minnesota, Crookston

The Vikings used an 11-0 run in the first six minutes to go up by 17. The Golden Eagles returned the favor with an 18-10 run late in the first session to cut the lead to 40-31 at the break. Augustana used a 19-6 run late in the second half to extend the lead to 26 before taking the 84-58 victory.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) who tallied the second highest point total in her career with 19 points to tie a game-high. She was 3-6 from the field and a solid 12-14 from the free-throw line. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) followed Eul with 13 points and Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) finished with 12 points. Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, Sr, Moorhead, Minn.) led UMC defensively with seven rebounds.
 
The Augustana defense caused 17 Minnesota, Crookston turnovers and led to 17 Viking points throughout the course of the game. Augustana was led by Alex Feeney who tied a game-high with 19 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Megan Doyle followed Feeney with 18 points and was a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Molly Hayes moved the ball for Augie collecting eight assists while knocking down 13 points. The Vikings as a team were 11-22 from beyond the arc in the game and shot 46.3% from the field.
 
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Augustana advances to 11-1 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow to host #10 ranked Wayne State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team closes out the 2010 portion of the season at home this weekend when the team hosts Augustana College and Wayne State. UMC will host Augustana College who is currently ranked third in the conference on Friday, December 17 at 6:00 p.m. The squad returns to Lysaker Gymnasium on Saturday, December 18 to host the top ranked team in the NSIC in Wayne State at 4 p.m.
 
MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON - (4-3, 1-2 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team went 1-1 on the week. UMC defeated Dickinson State 94-64 on Wednesday before falling in a nail-biter 64-62 to MSU Moorhead. Minnesota, Crookston was led on the weekend by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who tallied a team-high 39 points. She earned game-highs in points on both nights with 17 on Wednesday and 22 on Friday including her first double-double of the season against the Dragons. She was 13-23 (56%) and an outstanding 11-12 (91%) from the free-throw line. She finished the weekend third on the team in rebounds with 14 and was tied for second on the team in assists with five. Zelinsky has led the team in scoring in five of the first seven games and is averaging 18.1 points/game.
 
AUGUSTANA COLLEGE- (10-1, 3-1 NSIC) Molly Hayes (G, 5-6, Jr., Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg HS) averaged 18.5 points and 4.5 assists per game last weekend, leading No. 19 Augustana to a pair of conference wins over U-Mary and Northern State. Hayes tied a career high with 25 points against the Marauders on Friday, draining a trio of 3-pointers and finishing 8 of 14 from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds in Augustana's 76-74 win. On Sunday against the Wolves, Hayes scored 12 points and handed out five assists as the Vikings picked up a 71-62 victory. The junior finished the weekend shooting 65.0 percent. Hayes also had three steals.
 
WAYNE STATE- (7-1, 4-0 NSIC) Alyssa Fischbach, a 5-11 senior forward from Mellette, South Dakota, averaged a double-double this weekend with 16.0 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in helping the 13th ranked Wildcats improve to 7-1 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC with home wins over Northern State and Mary. Fischbach poured in a career-high 19 points to go with 12 rebounds Friday night for her first double double of the season Friday night in a 61-50 win over Northern State and followed that performance with 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists in Sunday afternoon's 83-63 win over the University of Mary. For the weekend, Fischbach shot 57.1 percent from the field (12-21), was 5 of 9 from the three point line and 3 of 4 at the free throw stripe.

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team will look to break into the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win column this Friday and Saturday when they host a pair of league games. The Golden Eagles will host Augustana College on Friday, December 17 and Wayne State College on Saturday, December 18. The game with the Vikings will tip-off at 8 p.m. while the game with the Wildcats will tip-off at 6 p.m.

U of M, Crookston has an overall record of 4-3 and NSIC record of 0-3 after defeating the College of St. Scholastica 64-56 in non-conference action on Wednesday and dropping a 67-60 NSIC decision to Minnesota State University Moorhead on Saturday. The Golden Eagles are led by Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) who is averaging 15.4 points and four rebounds per game. Larry Brown (Jr, F, St. Paul, Minn.) is averaging 12.8 points and four rebounds per game. Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) is averaging 11.7 points per game while Adam Hendricks (Sr, F, Watertown, Minn.) is averaging 11.6 points per game.

Golden Eagles vs. Augustana College  Friday, December 17   8 p.m.

The Vikings have an overall record of 5-3 and NSIC record of 2-2 after defeating the University of Mary (68-55) and Northern State University (90-85) this past weekend. Cameron McCaffrey is averaging 18.4 points per game while Cody Schilling is averaging 16.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles vs. Wayne State College  Saturday, December 18  6 p.m.

The Wildcats have an overall record of 6-2 and NSIC record of 2-2 after defeating Northern State University (79-60) and the University of Mary (66-55) this past weekend. Amry Shelby is averaging 18.3 points per game. Brad Starken is averaging 11.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game while Jason Jensen is averaging 11.4 points per game.

Moller Accepts Head Football Coach Position at U of M, Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. (December 13, 2010) -  The University of Minnesota, Crookston announced this morning that Charles "Chuck" Moller has accepted the position of head football coach for the Golden Eagles.  Coach Moller will meet with members of the Golden Eagle Football Team this morning.

"We feel fortunate to have someone of Chuck's caliber to lead our football program," said Athletic Director Steph Helgeson.  "We believe his passion for football and the accomplishments he's made over his career will enhance the experience for our student-athletes and will also help move Golden Eagle Athletics forward."

Originally from Eagle Bend, Minnesota, Moller has built a career coaching football that spans more than twenty years.  Most recently he has served as assistant football coach for Phoenix College, in Phoenix, Arizona, but he has been a member of the football coaching staff for the offensive line at Oklahoma State University (2001-2004); for the offensive line for tackles and tight ends at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California (1997-2001), where he helped coach a team to the Rose Bowl in 2000; for tight ends and kicking at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque (1991-1997); as assistant head coach at Texas State University in San Marcos (1989-1991); and at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas (1987-1989).

He also served as a graduate assistant football coach at North Dakota State University from 1985 to 1987 under then Head Football Coach Rocky Hagar.  Moller spent his first collegiate coaching season at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota, Morris.  As a college football player, he was a four-year letterman and two-time all-region player.  He was also named Academic All-American.

Moller earned his bachelor's degree in physical education, elementary through secondary, at the U of M, Morris, and pursued graduate work in athletic administration and physical education while he was at North Dakota State.  He also has experience in business as a realtor for Ridgecrest Realty in Cave Creek, Arizona.  He and his wife, Kris, have two children.

"Our athletics programs are an important part of our students' overall experience, and we believe Coach Moller can help us further establish a strong tradition for our football program," said U of M, Crookston Chancellor Charles Casey. "We look forward to having him on board."

Dragons Down Golden Eagle Men 67-60 in NSIC Action

The Dragons led by as many as 15 points in the second half. However, neither team took absolute control as MSUM only shot 43.4% (23-53) for the game while the Golden Eagles only shot 36.8% (21-57).

MSUM was led by Dennis Williamson who scored 19 points (7-13 from the field) with 11 rebounds. Jake Driscoll added 15 points (5-9 from the field) while Tarell Clark dropped in 15 points (4-12 from the field) with nine rebounds.

U of M, Crookston was led by Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) who scored a game-high 22 points (6-14 from the field) with four assists. Almir Krdzalic (So, G, Sioux Falls, S.D.) added 13 points (5-14 from the field) with five rebounds. Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) scored 11 points (4-12 from the field).

The Dragons improve to 5-2 overall and 2-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 4-3 overall and 0-3 in the NSIC.

U of M, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Friday, December 17 and Saturday, December 18 when they host Augustana College and Wayne State College respectively. Friday's game will tip-off at 8 p.m. while Saturday's will tip-off at 6 p.m.

Dragons Sneak Past Golden Eagles 64-62 in NSIC Showdown

Zelinsky_Jamie10.JPG(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team returned to Lysaker Gymnasium today to host NSIC foe MSU Moorhead. The Dragons have had the Golden Eagles number holding UMC winless since January 6, 2004. Minnesota, Crookston took the early lead and held it until the 5:58 mark of the second half before MSU Moorhead took a one point lead. The score was tied two times and the lead changed three times down the stretch before the Dragons sealed the 64-62 victory.
 
The first half was more about defense than offense as both teams struggled from the field.  UMC shot 31.3% and MSU Moorhead missed their first eight shots on the way to a 26.7% shooting performance through the first 20 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles did manage an impressive 50% (4-8) from three-point land for the first half.  For the second half, the Dragons drastically improved their shooting to a 43.8% average. UMC also improved from the field to 34.5%, but it wasn't enough as the Dragons outscored the Golden Eagles 42-30 in the second half.  UMC led the entire game until 6:24 left in the second half when the Dragon's Marisa Yernatich hit two free-throws to tie the game.  The lead changed twice and then MSU Moorhead took the lead for good with 4:00 minutes left and never led by more than four points in the contest.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.), who had a game- high 22 points and a game-high 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season.  Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) pitched in with 13 points and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So, Albertville, Minn.) had a team-high four assists to go along with nine points. Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So., Rosemount, Minn.) played strong down low blocking a game-high three shots and grabbing four rebounds before getting into foul trouble.
 
MSU Moorhead's leading scorer was Angie Jetvig, who had 21 points and tied for a team-high eight rebounds. Megan Strese also had eight rebounds and 13 points and Marisa Yernatich was second on the team with 14 points.
 
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in NSIC play. The Dragons advance to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play. The Golden Eagles return to Lysaker Gymnasium next weekend to host Augustana and Wayne State in an NSIC double-header. Games are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men in Lysaker Gymnasium.
 
White-Out: The SRM Club will be selling t-shirts prior to the game to help "White Out" Lysaker Gymnasium in support of the Golden Eagle Basketball teams. In addition, fans purchasing t-shirts will be eligible to win several prizes including a television and a variety of gift cards to area businesses.

The Golden Eagles shot 58.3% (14-24) in the first half and finished at 55.6% (25-44) from the field for the game. U of M, Crookston was led by Jacolby Anderson (Jr, G, Lancaster, Tex.) who tied for a game high 24 points (10-14 from the field including 3-5 from the three-point range) and added six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) added 13 points (4-6 from the field including 1-3 from the three-point range) with six steals and four assists. Trent Graves (Jr, F, Hartford, S.D.) went 7-8 from the field for 15 points and had three rebounds. U of M, Crookston scored 26 points in the paint and 21 points off of turnovers.


The Saints were led by Brett Tester who also scored 24 points (10-13 from the field) and added five rebounds. Derek Anderson scored 11 points (4-9 from the field with three three-pointers) while adding three rebounds and two assists. Danny Schmitz scored ten points (4-14 from the field) with three rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The Golden Eagles improve to 4-2 overall. CSS falls to 1-5.

Burnsville, Minn. -- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced its All-Academic Teams for the 2010 fall athletic season. To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. WBB Team 9-10 0848.jpg(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team honored the UMC faculty and staff and UMC Teambackers tonight with an impressive 94-64 victory over visiting Dickinson State University. The Blue Hawks grabbed an early five point lead but the Golden Eagles used a 25-7 run in the first half to go into halftime with a 44 - 25 lead.  The second half was more of the same from UMC as they lead by 40 at one point and finished the game with the 30 point victory. The Golden Eagles continued their strong offensive play as they scored 50 or more points in a half for the fourth time this season and shot over 50% from the field for the fourth time this season. UMC found comfort from long range as they knocked down a school record tying 14 three-pointers coming from eight different players. The team showed its cohesiveness tying a season-high with 22 team assists and 50 total rebounds. UMC set a season-high in offensive boards with 16 and five players came off the bench to tally 35 points.
 
The U of M, Crookston defense was stout in the first half as they held the Blue Hawks to 23.5% shooting from the field. The Golden Eagles themselves shot 44.4% from the field and an impressive 54.5% from beyond the arc. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11 Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles in scoring with 11 points and Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So, Rosemount, Minn.) led the team with 10 rebounds through the first 20 minutes of play.  Zelinsky and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So, Albertville, Minn.) each had three assists to lead the team going into half.  Mandy Mullock lead the Blue Hawks with 10 points and Terri Washington had a team high five rebounds in the first half.
 
UMC used a 19 - 7 run to start the second half and had a nine point run in the middle of the half to increase the lead to 40 with 9:10 remaining in the game.  Dickinson State University had a better half from the field shooting 40.6% but UMC also improved their shooting to a blazing 58.8%.  Gracie Bruzek (G, 5-3, Fr, Alexandria, Minn.) led the way for the Golden Eagles in the second half scoring 11 points on three three-pointers and one field goal just inside the arc. Amber Adams led the Blue Hawks in points for the second half with eight.
 
On the night, Jamie Zelinsky finished with a game-high 17 points, leading the Golden Eagles in scoring for the fourth time this season. She was 6-9 from the field and 4-5 from the free-throw line. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0 Sr, Northfield, Minn.) was second on the team with 15 points going 6-10 from the field and 3-6 from long range. Laurie Tyson grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and scored 10 points for her third double-double of the season. Tori Joransen (F, 6-0, Fr, Minnetonka, Minn.) was close behind with a career-high 10 rebounds and career-high nine points.  Brittani Wiese finished the contest dishing a season-high tying five assists while knocking down 12 points.
 
Kylee Bittner and Amber Adams led the Blue Hawks in points with 12 and 10 respectively. Bittner was 4-13 from the field and 3-4 from the free-throw line. Terri Washington and Adams each finished with seven rebounds to lead the team.
 
Minnesota, Crookston advances to 4-2 overall while Dickinson State falls to 4-7 on the season. The Golden Eagles host conference foe MSU Moorhead on Saturday, December 11. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium. It is "White Out" day at the Golden Eagle Women's and Men's games on Saturday. UMC fans are asked to wear white apparel to "White Out" Lysaker Gymnasium.

Fowle_Erin10.JPG(Crookston, Minn.) - The University of Minnesota, Crookston's Women's Softball program announced today that Erin Fowle (P, 5-8, So, Winnipeg, Manitoba) has been selected by USA Athletes International to play in the 2011 Curacao Friendship Series on the island of Curacao from June 6- June 13, 2011. The team will play five games and have the opportunity to take part in several educational experiences during the event.
 
"This is a great opportunity for Erin to showcase her talents on an international stage," says Head Coach Mitch Bakken. "As a freshman last season, she was one of our top pitchers and hitters. With another season at the Division II level under her belt, I think she will not only be able to compete, but be very successful in the five games the team plays in Curacao."

MINNESOTA, CROOKSTON - (3-2, 1-1 NSIC) The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team opened the NSIC season last weekend at Minnesota Duluth and Bemidji State. UMC fell to Duluth 79-87 before rebounding to defeat BSU 83-55. Minnesota, Crookston was led by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who tied a game-high with 20 points on Friday and led all players with 17 points on Saturday. For the weekend she averaged 18.5 points/game and shot 53.8% (14-26) from the field. She was 3-6 from long range and a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. She grabbed seven rebounds, dished a team-high six assists and blocked two shots to lead UMC.
 
DICKINSON STATE- (4-5, 0-2 DAC) The Lady Blue Hawks are led by Terri Washington who is averaging 13.4 points/game. She is second on the team in rebounding with 25 following the team leader Amber Adams who has 30. Dickinson will play MSU Moorhead on December 7 before playing UMC on December 8. The Lady Blue Hawks are currently on a two game losing streak after falling to Jamestown College and Valley City State University.
 
MSU MOORHEAD- (4-1, 2-0 NSIC) The Dragons are on a four-game winning streak after falling to Southern Indiana to open the season. MSU Moorhead completed the NSIC weekend sweep defeating Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth. Angie Jetvig leads the Dragons offensively with 20.6 points/game. She is the Dragon offense as she leads the team in free-throws made and three-pointers made as well. Defensively, she leads the squad in rebounds and blocked shots.

U of M, Crookston was led by Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) who scored 18 points (7-12 from the field) with four three-pointers and, two assists and two steals. Adam Hendricks (Sr, F, Watertown, Minn.) scored 17 points (7-17 from the field) with four rebounds and two assists.

The game was decided in the first six minutes as the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 19-0 lead led by Annessa Hicks (G, 5-2, Fr., St. Paul, Minn.) who scored nine points on 4-4 shooting through those six minutes. UMC shot 62% from the field in the first half. The team was 4-6 from long range and 11-15 from the free-throw line through the first 20 minutes. BSU was a dismal 7-32 from the field and 0-7 from beyond the arc in the first half. Minnesota, Crookston extended the lead to as many as 35 before the half ended 51-16. Bemidji State responded in the second half and won the final 20 minutes 39-32 but the 35 point first half lead earned the Golden Eagles the 83-55 NSIC victory.

The Golden Eagles were led by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who scored a game-high 17 points. She was 6-10 from the field, 2-3 from three-point and 3-3 from the free-throw line. It is the third time this season Zelinsky has led UMC in scoring. Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) played back-to-back outstanding games scoring 16 points tonight going 4-6 from the field and a perfect 8-8 from the line. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr., Northfield, Minn.) added 14 points while Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So., Albertville, Minn.) added 10 points and tied a game-high with seven rebounds. Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So., Rosemount, Minn.) tied Wiese with seven rebounds and added seven points in the victory. Hicks finished with nine points and a game-high four assists.

Bemidji State was led by Samantha Baldwin's 12 points. She also led the squad with seven rebounds. Melissa Bortner followed Baldwin with 11 points and tied Baldwin with a team-high three assists.

Minnesota, Crookston advances to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Bemidji State falls to 2-3 overall and 0-2 in the NSIC. UMC opens the home season on Wednesday, December 8 when the team plays a non-conference contest with Dickinson State. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Bulldogs Sneak Past Golden Eagles in NSIC Opener

(Duluth, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team traveled to Minnesota Duluth tonight to open the NSIC season with the Bulldogs. UMD came out of the gates shooting 50% and took an 11 point lead into the half at 47-36. UMC responded by shooting 57.6% but the first half deficit was too much as the Bulldogs took the victory 87-79.

Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) tied a game-high with 20 points. She was 8-16 from the field, 1-3 from long range and a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line. She dished four assists and blocked one shot in 30 minutes of play. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr., Northfield, Minn.) and Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) followed Zelinsky with 17 and 14 points respectively. Zabel tied a team-high with seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs were aided in the victory by 15 offensive rebounds and 11 second chance points. Lindsay Miller and Courtney Doucette tied Zelinsky with 20 points each. Shelly Stemper led all players with eight rebounds and Kaiya Sygulla led all players with nine assists.

Minnesota, Crookston moves to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Minnesota Duluth advances to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow when they travel to Bemidji State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

Bulldogs Drop Golden Eagle Men 68-44 in NSIC Season Opener

UMD shot 59.4% in the first half and held the Golden Eagles to just 29.2% from the field as they took a 46-21 lead into the locker room. U of M, Crookston outscored the Bulldogs 23-22 in the second half but it was not enough as UMD took the 68-44 victory.

The Bulldogs were led by Ryan Rasmussen who scored 27 points (10-16 from the field) with seven three-pointers and five assists. Riley Walker scored 15 points (5-10 from the field) with seven rebounds. Dylan Rodriguez added 12 points (6-7 from the field).

The Golden Eagles were led by Eric Dearden (Sr, G, Riverton, Utah) who scored 15 points (5-12 from the field) with five steals.

The University of Minnesota Duluth improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. The University of Minnesota, Crookston falls to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC.

The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Saturday, December 4 when they travel to Bemidji State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

UMC Teambackers to Host Coaches Luncheon on Friday, December 10

(Crookston, Minn.)- The UMC Teambackers will hold a Golden Eagle coaches luncheon on Friday, December 10 at the Crookston Eagles Club. Lunch will be served and coaches will give updates on their seasons to date, along with outlooks on their upcoming games. Selected student-athletes will speak about their season, upcoming games and opponents. On Saturday, December 11, the Golden Eagle Women's and Men's Basketball teams will host MSU Moorhead in NSIC action. Game times are set for 2 p.m. for the women and 4 p.m. for the men at Lysaker Gymnasium.
 
The luncheon begins at noon and runs approximately one hour. The cost is $7.00. Everyone is invited to attend this event.
