Bulldogs Sneak Past Golden Eagles in NSIC Opener

(Duluth, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team traveled to Minnesota Duluth tonight to open the NSIC season with the Bulldogs. UMD came out of the gates shooting 50% and took an 11 point lead into the half at 47-36. UMC responded by shooting 57.6% but the first half deficit was too much as the Bulldogs took the victory 87-79.

Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) tied a game-high with 20 points. She was 8-16 from the field, 1-3 from long range and a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line. She dished four assists and blocked one shot in 30 minutes of play. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr., Northfield, Minn.) and Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) followed Zelinsky with 17 and 14 points respectively. Zabel tied a team-high with seven rebounds.

The Bulldogs were aided in the victory by 15 offensive rebounds and 11 second chance points. Lindsay Miller and Courtney Doucette tied Zelinsky with 20 points each. Shelly Stemper led all players with eight rebounds and Kaiya Sygulla led all players with nine assists.

Minnesota, Crookston moves to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Minnesota Duluth advances to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow when they travel to Bemidji State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
