heieie_mariah.png(Crookston, Minn.) - The University of Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagle Women's Soccer program announced today the signing of Mariah Heieie from Glenwood, Minn. to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Golden Eagles during the 2011 season.

Heieie is a 5'6" midfielder. She attends Minnewaska Area High School where she plays soccer for her father Brian. Heieie should feel at home right away as she reunites with her former high school teammate Ashley Sletten. During their time together Heieie and Sletten paired to create a formidable scoring duo.

"Mariah brings a lot of athleticism and skill to our team," says Golden Eagle Head Women's Soccer Coach Richard Jones. "Mariah is a versatile player who I can see being a dynamic impact player at multiple positions during her time at U of M, Crookston."

Heieie is undecided on her major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Brian and Lisa Heieie.

Ramirez is a 5'3" forward. She attends Mercy High School in San Francisco, Cal. where she has been a star player. Ramirez also plays club soccer for the Central Valley Flames which is one of the best club programs in Northern California. The Flames travel all over the United States and play in elite tournaments and showcases.

"Jessica is an extremely talented player who will improve our team's ability to score goals," says Golden Eagle Head Women's Soccer Coach Richard Jones. "Jessica has great vision of the field. She has the ability to score goals herself or create dangerous opportunities for her teammates. Jessica will bring skill and a style that is rarely seen in the Midwest."

Ramirez plans to major in biology at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Richard and Lucid Ramirez.

Mears is a 5'5" midfielder. She attends Sioux Falls Washington High School where she has been a standout player. Mears also plays club soccer for the Dakota Alliance Soccer Club which is a perennial South Dakota State Cup Champion and competes regularly at the United States Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) Regional Championships.

"Erin Mears is someone I have been excited about since the first time I saw her play," says Golden Eagle Head Women's Soccer Coach Richard Jones. "She is a very technical player and does a myriad of fantastic things to make her team successful. Erin will have an immediate impact in our midfield."

Mears plans to major in marketing at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. She is the daughter of Kirk and Barb Mears.

Burnsville, Minn. -- The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference has announced its All-Academic Teams for the 2010 fall athletic season. To be eligible for this honor, the student-athlete must be a member of the varsity traveling team and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. Furthermore, the athlete must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at her/his institution (true freshmen, red-shirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible) and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution. The Golden Eagles doubled their team members after finishing with eight on the team last fall.

ogaard_anna_10.gif(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Soccer player Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) has been named All-Conference Honorable Mention by the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC).

Ogaard recently completed her four-year career for the Golden Eagles. She recorded 161 saves and played in 1519 minutes while starting 15 of 17 games played. Ogaard had a goals against average of 2.72 and a saves percentage of .778.

In her career, Ogaard accumulated 4951 minutes played while starting 53 of 64 games played. She recorded 457 saves which ranks first at the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Her eight wins and three shutouts rank second while her 7.14 saves per game ranks third.

Ogaard is an applied studies major at the University of Minnesota, Crookston with a minor in dietetics. She is the daughter of Louise Ogaard.

Winona State Stops Golden Eagles 3-0 in Season Finale

ogaard_anna_10.gifgibeault_megan_10.gif(Crookston, Minn.)- Melissa Sellier scored two second half goals as Winona State University (WSU) defeated the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Soccer action today in Crookston, Minn. It was the season finale for the Golden Eagles.

The Warriors opened the scoring at 25:46 when Sarah Colleran scored an unassisted goal to put WSU up 1-0. Sellier scored her first goal in unassisted fashion at 54:56 to make the score 2-0. She closed out the scoring at 62:48 when she scored off assists from Lauren Sturdevant and Jennifer Deroo.

Anna Belpedio recorded two saves and the shutout for the Warriors. Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded 12 saves in her final appearance for U of M, Crookston.

WSU improves to 14-3-1 overall and 11-3-1 in the NSIC. They will advance to the NSIC Playoffs. The Golden Eagles close out the year with an overall record of 2-13-3 and NSIC record of 2-10-1.

U of M, Crookston bids farewell to Anna Ogaard and Megan Gibeault (Sr, F, Green Bay, Wis.) and wishes them nothing but the best in their future endeavors.

Golden Eagles Tie Upper Iowa 1-1 in Double Overtime

flynn_megan_10.gifogaard_anna_10.gif(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston's Megan Flynn (So, D, Chanhassen, Minn.) scored off an assist from Amye Berg (So, M, Lino Lakes, Minn.) at 66:23 to tie the game at 1-1 and neither Upper Iowa University or the Golden Eagles scored in the two overtime stanzas as both teams settled for a 1-1 double overtime tie today in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Soccer action in Crookston, Minn.

The Peacocks scored at 45:11 when Valeria Ptasinski found the back of the net off an assist from Amanda Millard.

Amanda Smith recorded four saves for Upper Iowa University. Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded 11 saves for the University of Minnesota, Crookston.

The Peacocks now have an overall record of 8-6-3 and NSIC record of 4-5-3. The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 2-12-3 and NSIC record of 2-9-1.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston closes out the 2010 season on Sunday, October 31 when they host Winona State University in an NSIC match at 1 p.m. It will also be senior day.

The Golden Eagles face Upper Iowa University on Saturday at 11 a.m. and Winona State University on Sunday at 1 p.m. Saturday will be Parents Day while Sunday will be Senior Day.

U of M, Crookston holds an overall record of 2-12-2 and NSIC record of 2-9-0 after dropping games to Augustana College and Wayne State College by identical 3-0 scores this past weekend.

Ashley Sletten (So, F, Glenwood, Minn.) has scored four goals for eight points. Brittany Taylor (Fr, F, Noblesville, Ind.) has scored two goals and added one assist for five points while Jessica Goodrich (Fr, F, Munster, Ind.) has scored one goal and added three assists for five points. Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) has a 2.86 goals against average and a .767 saves percentage.

Liz Kaluzinski has scored 11 goals and added two assists for 24 points. Valeria Ptasinski has scored five goals and added six assists for 16 points. Amanda Smith has a 1.17 goals against average and a .821 saves percentage.

Golden Eagles vs. Winona State University Sunday, October 31  1 p.m.

The Warriors have an overall record of 12-3-1 and NSIC record of 9-3-1 after defeating Southwest Minnesota State University 1-0 and Minnesota State University 2-1 this past weekend. They are in first place in the NSIC. The Warriors are led by Melissa Sellier who has scored four goals and added five assists for 13 points and Jennifer Deroo who has scored six goals and added one assist for 13 points. Lauren Sturdevant has added four goals and three assists for 11 points. Anna Belpedio has a 0.56 goals against average and a .905 saves percentage.

(Crookston, Minn.)- Megan Dias scored two goals and assisted on a third as Wayne State College defeated the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-0 today in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Soccer today in Crookston, Minn.

The Wildcats got on the board just 1:37 into the game when Liz Israelsen scored off an assist from Dias to make the score 1-0. The game remained the same until Dias scored off a breakaway at 43:50 to put Wayne State College up 2-0. Alexa Romek assisted on the goal. Dias closed out her day with an unassisted goal off a rebound at 87:13 to give the Wildcats the 3-0 victory.

Emily Walker recorded two saves to get the shutout. Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded four saves for the Golden Eagles.

U of M, Crookston falls to 2-12-2 overall and 2-9-0 in the NSIC. Wayne State College improves to 7-5-4 overall and 3-4-4 in the NSIC.

The Golden Eagles close out the 2010 regular season at home on Saturday, October 30 against Upper Iowa University and Sunday, October 31 against Winona State University. The NSIC games start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.

Augustana College Stops Golden Eagles 3-0 in Women's Soccer

(Crookston, Minn.)- Augustana College took a 1-0 lead at the half and went on to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-0 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Women's Soccer action today in Crookston, Minn.

The Vikings struck first at 21:06 when Jessie Huff scored off an assist from Maren Werth. Katie Hurd followed up with an unassisted goal at 62:36. Katie Bowman closed out the 3-0 victory with a goal at 68:35. She was assisted by Mackenzie Trom.

Kate Timmons recorded two saves to get the shutout for Augustana College. Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded seven saves for the Golden Eagles.

The Vikings improve to 6-7-2 overall and 5-4-1 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston falls to 2-11-2 overall and 2-8-0 in the NSIC.

The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Sunday, October 24 when they host Wayne State College at 1 p.m.
