No. 16 Augustana Uses Deep Ball to Defeat Minnesota, Crookston

Eul_Megan10.JPG(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball hosted #16 ranked Augustana College this evening in an NSIC match-up. The Vikings used an 11-0 run in the first six minutes to go up by 17. The Golden Eagles returned the favor with an 18-10 run late in the first session to cut the lead to 40-31 at the break. Augustana used a 19-6 run late in the second half to extend the lead to 26 before taking the 84-58 victory.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) who tallied the second highest point total in her career with 19 points to tie a game-high. She was 3-6 from the field and a solid 12-14 from the free-throw line. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, Sr, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) followed Eul with 13 points and Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, Sr, Northfield, Minn.) finished with 12 points. Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, Sr, Moorhead, Minn.) led UMC defensively with seven rebounds.
 
The Augustana defense caused 17 Minnesota, Crookston turnovers and led to 17 Viking points throughout the course of the game. Augustana was led by Alex Feeney who tied a game-high with 19 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Megan Doyle followed Feeney with 18 points and was a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc. Molly Hayes moved the ball for Augie collecting eight assists while knocking down 13 points. The Vikings as a team were 11-22 from beyond the arc in the game and shot 46.3% from the field.
 
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 4-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play. Augustana advances to 11-1 overall and 4-1 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow to host #10 ranked Wayne State. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
