No. 10 Wayne State Defeats Minnesota, Crookston on 25 Free-Throws

Joransen_Tori10.JPG(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team hosted #10 ranked Wayne State College this evening in an NSIC match-up. The Wildcats used a 16-0 run in the first half to take a 43-25 lead into halftime. Wayne State pushed the lead up to 30 early in the second half, when the Golden Eagles made a great 18-0 run of their own and cut the lead to 11. The Wildcats responded with a 12-0 run to put the game out of reach as Wayne State prevailed 79-60.
 
The Golden Eagles were led by Megan Eul (F, 5-10, Jr, Rosemount, Minn.) who scored 13 points and had three rebounds.  Tori Joransen (F, 6-0, Fr, Minnetonka, Minn) scored a career-high 12 points and contributed three rebounds.  Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, So, Rosemount, Minn.) led the team with four rebounds and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, So, Albertville, Minn.)  led the team with four assists.  Minnesota, Crookston was 25-58, good for 43.1%, from the field but only had six attempts from the free throw line.
 
Wayne State was 25-32 from the free-throw line and out rebounded the Golden Eagles by 12.  The Wildcats scored 38 points off turnovers while shooting 45.3% from the field.  Mara Hjelle had a game-high 15 points and game-high 19 rebounds to lead Wayne State.  Ashley Arlen was second on the team for both points and rebounds with 14 and four respectively.       
 
Minnesota, Crookston moves to 4-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play. Wayne State improves to 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles will travel to Marshall, Minn. on New Year's Day to take on Southwest Minnesota State.  Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
