Peacocks Down Golden Eagles 5-0

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Upper Iowa Women's Soccer team scored three goals in the first half and then added two more in the second on their way to a 5-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in Fayette, Iowa.

The Peacocks got on the board at 3:34 as Alyssa Petersburg scored an unassisted goal to put the University of Upper Iowa up 1-0. They struck again at 8:37 as Valeria Ptasinski scored off an assist from Liz Kaluzinski. Shaina Marnell made the score 3-0 at 38:17 off assists from Lauren Verhulst and Amy Campbell. The Peacocks stretched their lead to 4-0 at 66:03 when Christine Dwyer scored off assists from Jamie Krusie and Marnell. The scoring was closed out at 86:03 when Emma Vanderheyden scored an unassisted goal that made the score 5-0.

Melissa Heitzman recorded four saves to get the shutout.

The University of Upper Iowa improves to 4-4-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 2-5-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the NSIC.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Friday, September 25 and Sunday, September 27 when they host Bemidji State University and the University of Minnesota Duluth respectively. Friday's game time is set for 3 p.m. while Sunday's match will begin at 1 p.m.
