(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) exploded for six goals in the second half to break open a scoreless game on their way to a 6-1 victory over the University of Minnesota, Crookston in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) women's soccer action today in Crookston, Minn.
On a cold and rainy day that saw wind gusts of up to 35 miles per hour, the Golden Eagles put up a strong fight holding the Bulldogs scoreless through the first half. However, UMD took control as six different players scored the next six goals.
Whitney Wilson got things started at 52:54 off assists from Becky Anderson and Molly Nepote. Anderson got into the goal column at 54:10 off assists from Alex Paffrath and Kelly Duchene. Reegan Lloyd scored an unassisted goal at 57:42 to make the score 3-0. Clare Dahmen found the back of the Golden Eagle net at 58:51 off Anderson and Paffrath's second assists of the day. Anna Gradeen got into the action at 69:51 with a goal off Cassie Shepherd's corner kick. Abby Serreyn closed out UMD's scoring at 74:24 with an unassisted goal.
Megan Flynn (Fr, Def, Chanhassen, Minn.) got the University of Minnesota, Crookston on the board at 76:28 with an unassisted goal.
UMD's Hannah Bengston played 81:29 in net recording 4 saves before being relieved by Hanna Iazzo. Anna Ogaard (Jr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) played 61:06 in net recording nine saves. Carmen Sanchez (Fr, GK, Naples, Fla.) played 28:54 in net recording three saves.
The University of Minnesota Duluth improves to 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 2-7-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the NSIC.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston will return to action on Friday, October 2 and Sunday, October 4 when they hit the road for NSIC games against Concordia University - St. Paul and St. Cloud State University in St. Paul and St. Cloud, Minn. The matches will start at 3 p.m. and 1 p.m. respectively.
