(Ames, Iowa)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team closed out their 2009-10 exhibition games with another Division I opponent. The Golden Eagles traveled to Ames, Iowa to take on Big 12 member Iowa State. The Cyclones shot 53% from the field to take the 98-37 victory in front of 9,685 fans.
Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) led Minnesota, Crookston with nine points. She was 3-7 from the field and 2-4 from long range. She grabbed seven rebounds to lead the team defensively. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.), Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, JR, Moorhead, Minn.) and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, FR, Albertville, Minn.) added six points each for the Golden Eagles.
Iowa State was led by Chelsea Poppens who scored a game-high 22 points. She was 10-18 from the field. Anna Prins followed Poppens with 20 points. Prins was a perfect 8-8 from the free-throw line. Denae Stuckey led all players with 13 rebounds and Alison Lacey led all players with eight assists.
The Golden Eagles open the non-conference season on Friday, November 20 when they host Mayville State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium.
