(Crookston, Minn.) -University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Baseball Coach Chris Vito will coach a team in Europe this summer for USA-Athletes International (USAAI). Coach Vito and Dwight Kotila of Century College (White Bear Lake, Minn.) will guide a team of ten student-athletes from colleges throughout the United States as they play games in Holland and France from July 19-27.
"This is a tremendous opportunity and a huge thrill for me," says Coach Vito. "It is an honor for me to be selected to do this. I am also looking forward to the opportunity to work with Dwight Kotila. We have coached against each other in the past but this will be our first opportunity to work together."
In addition to the games, each day has education sight-seeing trips for the players and coaches.
USA Athletes International, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to giving amateur athletes and coaches the opportunity to participate in international Olympic-style sporting events throughout the world, while also allowing them to broaden their educational and cultural knowledge of the world through the experience. With 15 years experience of international sports tournament travel, USAAI has experienced much growth and built a brand to be proud of. What started with one baseball team has grown to over 60 annual tours. They currently are represented with over 900 athletes in seven sports that travel around the world to over 14 countries. USAAI has been participating in international competition since 1992. Originally called the Midwest All-Stars, the organization provided overseas playing opportunities to baseball players. The success of that program eventually prompted requests from abroad for other sporting teams to participate. In 1998 the organization incorporated and received its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status (available upon request), changing its name to USA Athletes International. They now support a total of 15 different sports that compete in 25 different countries throughout the world. The University of Minnesota, Crookston is a NCAA Division II Institution and a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Golden Eagle Equestrian team is a member of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA).
