U of M, Crookston Women's Soccer Team Ties Jamestown College 1-1 in Season Opener

Thumbnail image for lee_stephanie09.JPG(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Soccer team opened the 2009 season with new head coach Richard Jones against Jamestown College on Tuesday afternoon in Jamestown, N.D. The Golden Eagles tied the Jimmies 1-1 in double overtime in a non-conference match.

U of M, Crookston opened the scoring at 67:50 of the match when Stephanie Lee (Jr, Def, Scarsdale, N.Y.) scored off a corner kick from Megan Flynn (Fr, Def, Chanhassen, Minn.) to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0. The Jimmies countered when Lauren Cottom scored an unassisted goal at 75:50 to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither team was able to score in the two overtime stanzas making the final score 1-1.

Emily Schmidt stopped five Golden Eagles shots while Angela Veches added two saves.

U of M, Crookston's Anna Ogaard (Jr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) stopped seven Jamestown College shots.

The Golden Eagles will return to action this Friday and Saturday when they hit the road for a pair of non-conference matches. On Friday, September 4, U of M, Crookston will take on Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. Action gets underway at 2:00 p.m. The Golden Eagles will face Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa on Saturday, September 5. The match will start at 11:00 a.m.
