(Crookston, Minn.)- Winona State University opened up a 3-0 lead after one half of play and went on to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston today in Winona, Minn. It was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opener for both squads.
Lauren Sturdivant supplied all the fire power the Warriors would need recording all three goals. She struck first at 11:52 off assists from Sara Palizzi and Amanda Dennis. Sturdivant scored her second goal of the contest at 14:40 when she took an assist from Martha Curtiss. It was Sturdivant from Dennis at 17:08 to close out the scoring at 3-0.
Anna Belpedio recorded two saves to gain the shutout for Winona State University. Anna Ogaard (Jr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) recorded seven saves for the Golden Eagles.
The Warriors improve to 4-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston falls to 2-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles will return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. as they travel to Fayette, Iowa to take on the University of Upper Iowa in an NSIC contest.
