Eul and Woodside Earn Newcomer of the Year Award at the University of Minnesota, Crookston

Newcomers of year09 3875.jpg(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Athletic Department recognized its 2008-2009 Newcomers of the Year on Saturday, October 3. The event took place at halftime of the Golden Eagle Football Homecoming game against Northern State University. Earning the honors were Megan Eul and Casey Woodside.
 
Megan Eul (So, F, 5-11, Rosemount, Minn.) started in 16 of 27 games played during the 2008-09 season. She averaged 10.8 points in 25 minutes per game. Megan shot 46 percent from the field and averaged five rebounds per game. She was an 85 percent free-throw shooter and was recognized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) as the top free-throw shooter in Division II Women's Basketball in games through January 4, 2009. She was 25-25 when the rankings last came out on December 14, 2008.  Megan's perfect streak was snapped on January 3 when she went 0-1 from the line against Southwest Minnesota State in the Golden Eagle's 76-73 victory over the Mustangs. Megan is the daughter of Craig and Liz Eul of Rosemount, MN. She is majoring in early childhood education at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
 
Casey Woodside (So, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) started in 43 of 45 games during the 2009 season. In the games that he played, Casey played at either the catcher or designated hitter position. Casey had a batting average of .277 (39 for 141) with eight doubles, three homeruns and 29 runs batted in (RBI). He also had 22 runs scored for the Golden Eagles. Casey is the son of Jeff and Angie Woodside of Albert Lea, Minn. He is majoring in business management at the University of Minnesota, ­Crookston.
