(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team was back in action tonight at home taking on Southwest Minnesota State University in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contest. The Golden Eagles played tough last night falling to Minnesota State in four sets, but could not find the same intensity in the match tonight. The Mustangs came out strong and put the match away in three sets (25-16, 25-15, 25-10).
Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, JR, Paxton, Neb.) led the Golden Eagles offensively with 16 kills and a .237 (16K, 7E, 38TA) attack percentage. Doing the setting was Shannon Cologna (S, 5-6, JR, Peoria, Ariz.) who recorded 24 assists on the night. Meyer also led the team in defensive digs with a match-high 11.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Mary Groth's 15 kills and solid .652 (15K, 0E, 23TA) attack percentage. Doing the setting was Cara Carson who had a respectable 26 assists on the night. Kenzie Niesche led the team in digs with 10 in the match. The Mustangs as a team attacked at a .411 (44K, 7E, 90TA) clip including a .619 attack percentage in the third set.
The Golden Eagles are 3-16 overall and 0-7 in the NSIC while the #14 ranked Mustangs advance to 15-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play. U of M, Crookston will hit the road again to play in Wayne, Neb. on October 9 and Sioux Falls, S.D. on October 10. Match times are set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
