(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston and Winona State returned to the court this afternoon following a match yesterday with Upper Iowa that saw the Golden Eagles set a season high in three set match kills with 49. Tonight the team set a season high in team blocks with 12 but the Warriors left town with the 3-1 victory (25-21, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19).
A trio of Golden Eagle hitters led the squad tonight. Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, JR, Paxton, Neb.), Ashley Allen (OH, 5-11, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) and Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, FR, Rochester, Minn.) combined for 31 of the teams 42 total kills. Meyer finished with a team-high 11 kills and added five block assists. Allen and Swann finished with 10 kills each. Allen added 18 defensive digs while Swann earned a team-high .333 (10K-1E-27TA) attack percentage and four total blocks (1 solo, 6 assisted). Libero Jaclyn Slepicka (Lib., 5-2, SR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) led UMC with 19 defensive digs.
Winona was led by Kerry Daly's match-high 12 kills and .455 (12K-2E-22TA) attack percentage. Carmen Stankowski and Jenna Padley followed Daly with 11 and 10 kills each. Setter Victoria Weatherly led all players with 49 set assists while Shannon McGowan led all players with 30 defensive digs.
The Golden Eagles are 4-21 overall and 1-12 in the NSIC while the Warriors advance to 7-18 overall and 5-9 in the NSIC. UMC travels to the University of Mary and Northern State University on October 30 and 31. First serve is set for 7 p.m. and 6 p.m. respectively.
