(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team took a seven point lead into halftime and held on for an exciting 74-69 non-conference victory over Jamestown College today at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn.
The Golden Eagles appeared to have the game in hand expanding their lead to 14 points at 14:01 of the second half. However, the Jimmies would not go away outscoring U of M, Crookston 40-38 in the second half before succumbing 74-69.
The Golden Eagles were led by Akeem Cubie (Jr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) who scored a game high 27 points and also pulled down eight rebounds. Damarius Cruz (Fr, G, Pymouth, Minn.) scored 20 points while Matt Heier (Sr, G, Ray, N.D.) added 13.
Jamestown College was led by John Peabody who scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds. Hans Hoeg and Bill Baumann added 15 and 12 points respectively.
The University of Minnesota, Crookston improves to 2-0 on the season. They return to action on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29 when they travel to Sioux Falls, S.D. to take part in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Hoopfest. The Golden Eagles will face Winona State University and Northern State University in a pair of non-conference games. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. each day.
