Golden Eagle Women's Basketball Travels to North Dakota to Open 2009-10 Season

(Grand Forks, N.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team traveled to Grand Forks, N.D. to battle the University of North Dakota tonight. The Sioux were red-hot in the first half as the Golden Eagles shook off some jitters. UMC responded in the second half to win the final 20 minutes but UND to the exhibition victory 74-56.

Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) led Minnesota, Crookston with 14 points on 5-10 shooting and led the squad with eight rebounds. Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, JR, Moorhead, Minn.) added 11 points. She was 4-6 from the field and 3-5 from beyond the arc. Kelsey Van Ackeren (G, 5-9, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) closed out the top scorers with 10 points in 18 minutes of play.

North Dakota was led by Kayla Bagaason who scored a game-high 18 points on 6-17 shooting. Kate Sharkova led all players with 12 rebounds and chipped in 12 points for the Sioux. UND outscored UMC 24-6 in the paint and 29-15 on second chance points in the contest.

The Golden Eagles travel to Ames, Iowa on Sunday, November 8 to play Iowa State in an exhibition contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
