(Sioux Falls, S.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team closed out the 2009 NSIC Holiday Hoopfest with a non-conference contest against Northern State University today. The Golden Eagles shot just 6-28 (21.4%) from the field in the first half and went into the break down 30-22. Minnesota, Crookston rallied in the final 20 minutes of play and shot 16-35 (45.7%) to win the half 36-32 but the clock played foe as Northern State snuck away with the victory 62-58.
The Golden Eagles were led by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who scored a team-high 12 points in 28 minutes of play. Defensively Minnesota, Crookston was led by Diana Taddy (G, 5-6, JR, Two Rivers, Wis.), Kelsey Van Ackeren (G, 5-9, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) and Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) who finished with five rebounds each. The Golden Eagles as a team won the play in the paint (24-18) and bench points (19-7).
The Wolves were led by Emily Becker who tallied 17 points in the game. She was followed by Mikayla Barondeau who had 13 and Jenna Higgins who finished with 12 points. Barondeau added a double-double with 12 rebounds while Jodi Reinschmidt finished with 10 total rebounds.
The Golden Eagles fall to 2-2 overall on the season while the Wolves advance to 3-2 overall this season. Minnesota, Crookston will stay on the road and play Briar Cliff on Tuesday, December 1 in Sioux City, Iowa. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
