Strong Second Half Propels Winona State Men's Basketball Team Over Golden Eagles

(Sioux Falls, S.D.)- Winona State University took an eight-point halftime lead and outscored the University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball squad by a 46-19 second half margin on their way to a 96-61 victory over the Golden Eagles in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Hoopsfest today in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The first half of the game saw plenty of offensive fireworks as both squads shot over fifty percent from the field with the Warriors taking a 50-42 advantage at the half. However, Winona State University took control in the second half shooting 56.7 percent from the field on their way to the non-conference victory.

The Golden Eagles were led by Damarius Cruz (Fr, G, Plymouth, Minn.) who scored 23 points. Akeem Cubie (Jr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) added ten points and ten rebounds.

Winona State University was led by David Johnson who scored 26 points. Joel Armstrong added 20 points and seven rebounds.

Winona State University improves to 4-0 on the season. The University of Minnesota, Crookston falls to 2-1. The Golden Eagles return to action on Sunday, November 29 when they face Northern State University in the NSIC Hoopsfest. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Elmen Arena in Sioux Falls, S.D.
