(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball player Akeem Cubie (Jr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player of the Week for his performances in two Golden Eagle non-conference wins last weekend.
Cubie's 44 points led the NSIC in scoring for the first week of the season. He averaged 22 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game. He was 17-of-31 from the field (.548) and a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.
In Saturday's 85-80 victory over the University of Minnesota Morris, Cubie scored 17 points and added six steals. In Sunday's 74-69 victory over Jamestown College, he led all scorers with 27 points while adding eight rebounds and four assists.
Akeem Cubie is majoring in business management at the University of Minnesota, Crookston.
The Golden Eagles are 2-0 on the season and return to action on Saturday, November 28 and Sunday, November 29 when they take part in the NSIC Holiday Hoopsfest in Sioux Falls, S.D. U of M, Crookston will face Winona State University and Northern State University in a pair of non-conference contests. Both games will tip-off at 2 p.m.
