Golden Eagles Fall to Bulldogs in Overtime NSIC Opener 83-75

(Duluth, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team shot just 28 percent in the first half and was down 30-26 through the first session to Minnesota Duluth. The Golden Eagles were down by as many as 14 but found the spark in the final 20 minutes and shot 56 percent from the field and won the second half 42-38 to send the game to overtime. In the extra frame, the Bulldogs went 4-5 from the field and outscored the Golden Eagles 15-7 to take the NSIC opener 83-75.

The Golden Eagles made eight three-pointers and hit a season-high 17 free-throws as a team. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led all scorers and the Golden Eagles for the third time this season with a season-high 21 points. She was 6-17 from the field and 8-12 from the free-throw line. She grabbed six rebounds and tied a game-high with five assists in 42 minutes of play. Brittany Wiese (G, 5-7, FR, Albertville, Minn.) added 16 points and Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) and Kelsey Van Ackeren (G, 5-9, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) tallied 13 points each. Van Ackeren earned a game-high in three-pointers going 4-5 from beyond the arc.

Duluth was led by Kelsey Hewitt who scored 18 points on 7-9 shooting. Jheri Booker scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebound while Lindsay Miller added 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds of her own.

The Golden Eagles fall to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the NSIC while the Bulldogs advance to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston heads to Bemidji State on Saturday to take on the Beavers. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
