Eighth Ranked Maverick Men Down Golden Eagles 83-62

cruz_damarius_09.jpg hendricks_adam_09.jpg(Crookston, Minn.)- Minnesota State University, Mankato broke open a close game and outscored the University of Minnesota, Crookston by 17 points in the second half on their way to an 83-62 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Basketball victory tonight at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston, Minn.

The Golden Eagles hung tough with the eighth ranked Mavericks going into the locker room down only four points at the half. However, Minnesota State University, Mankato's  balanced scoring took its toll with four players in double figures as they distanced themselves on their way to the win.

The Mavericks were led by Travis Nelson and his 18 points (8-for-8) and nine rebounds. He also added two blocked shots. Jefferson Mason (7-for-12) and Jermain Davis (6-for-10) each added 16 points. Mason also pulled down six rebounds. Marcus Hill closed things out with 11 points (4-for-8) with two assists and two steals.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston was led by Damarius Cruz (Fr, G, Plymouth, Minn.) who led all scorers with 21 points (9-for-20). Adam Hendricks (Jr, F, Watertown, Minn.) added 12 points (6-for-10) with four rebounds.

The Mavericks improve to 11-0 overall and 4-0 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-8 overall and 0-5 in the NSIC.

The University of Minnesota, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Sunday, January 3 at Lysaker Gymnasium when they play host to Southwest Minnesota State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
