(Crookston, Minn.)- The Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team played in two tough Northern Sun games this weekend. UMC fell to Wayne State on Saturday 73-52 and Augustana College got the best of Minnesota, Crookston on Sunday 92-60. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, FR, Albertville, Minn.) led the team this weekend. Zelinsky finished the weekend averaging 16 points/game. She was 14 of 27 from the field and 3 of 6 from long range. She averaged 5.5 rebounds/game, dished three assists and grabbed two steals. Wiese averaged 10.5 points/game on 36 percent (7-19) shooting. Lauren Kessler (C, 6-1, FR, Albertville, Minn.) had her best game of the season against Wayne State. She grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, blocked a season-high four shots, and tallied eight points. On the weekend, Kessler led the team with 9.5 rebounds/game and seven total blocks while averaging 4.5 points/game. Zelinsky leads the squad on the season averaging 15.6 points/ game. Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) follows Zelinsky with 14.1 points/game and leads the team with 76 rebounds. Wiese leads the team in steals with 20 and is averaging 11.5 points/game. The Golden Eagles are 6-8 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC.
MSU Moorhead is led by Alison Nash-Gerlach's 14.3 points/game. She is shooting .451 (4-15) from the field and .816 (80-98) from the free-throw line. Meghan Rettke is the team leader in rebounds with 149 (9.9 rebounds/game) and is averaging 13.9 points per game. The Dragons are 11-4 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
The Golden Eagles play the Dragons on Saturday, January 16 in Moorhead, Minn. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The team hosts Upper Iowa and Winona State on January 22 & 23. Game times are scheduled for 6:00 p.m. against Upper Iowa and 4:00 p.m. against Winona State.
