(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team opened tonight's game with a quick run over visiting Minnesota Duluth. Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, FR, Albertville, Minn.) and Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) hit three-pointers and Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) followed with a jumper at the 18:09 mark to put the Golden Eagles up 8-0. The Bulldogs responded with a knock-out 30-4 run to close out the first half up 44-20 and take the conference victory 82-55.
The Golden Eagles were led by Jamie Zelinsky for the tenth time this season. She was 8 of 14 from the field, 1 of 2 from deep, and 5 of 6 from the free-throw line for a total of 22 points. Kelsey Van Ackeren (G, 5-9, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) earned the sixth highest point total of her season with 10 points. Jamie Zelinsky and Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) each grabbed seven rebounds to tie for the team-high.
The Bulldogs were led by Jheri Booker who had a good night with a game-high nine total rebounds, four steals, and 24 total points. She was 9 of 17 from the field and 6 of 7 from the free-throw line. Lindsay Miller and Katie Haas followed Booker with 12 and 11 points respectively. Minnesota Duluth earned 13 steals as a team which led to 22 point off of Golden Eagle turnovers.
The Golden Eagles fall to 8-14 overall and 6-10 in Northern Sun play while the Bulldogs advance to 15-8 overall and 10-6 in conference play. Minnesota, Crookston returns to the court tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. to take on Bemidji State University at Lysaker Gymnasium. Tomorrow's contest could have playoff implications.
