(Findlay, Ohio)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston women's volleyball team entered its second match of the University of Findlay Classic riding a big five-set victory over Lake Superior State University. The Golden Eagles won the match with no set being decided by more than four points. The second challenge of the tournament was undefeated Wayne State University. This time around, no set was decided by more than there points, unfortunately U of M, Crookston came up short in each of the three sets 25-22.
The Golden Eagles as a team attacked the ball well with a solid .262 (42K-15E-103TA) attack percentage. Leading the offensive charge was Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, JR, Paxton, Neb.) who led all attackers with 16 kills. She added two more points on the defensive side of the ball with two block assists. Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, JR, Grand Rapids, Mich.) led all players with a .538 (8K-1E-13TA) attack percentage while Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, FR, Rochester, Mich.) added nine kills, a .421 (9K-1E-19TA) attack percentage and two block assists. Shannon Cologna (S, 5-6, JR, Peoria, Ariz.) led the setters with 36 assists and added five digs. Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5-2, SR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) continued to lead the Golden Eagle defense with a match high 20 defensive digs.
The Warriors as a team were very efficient on the offensive side of the ball attacking at a .324 (43K-9E-105TA) clip. The team was led by Sarha Gosselin's 15 kills and .419 (15K-2E-31TA) attack percentage. Candis Jenich added 11 kills while Cydney Biessel assisted on 32 of the 43 team kills. Lauren Mallast led all players in the match with three solo blocks.
The Golden Eagles are now 2-4 on the season while Warriors improve to a perfect 6-0. The Golden Eagles return to the court on Saturday, September 5 at 1:30 p.m. to take on the University of Findlay.
