Golden Eagles Drop Heart Breaker to Augustana College

(Sioux Falls, S.D.)- After leading two sets to none against Augustana College today, the Vikings regrouped and rallied back to win the next three sets to defeat the University of Minnesota, Crookston 3-2 (23-25, 16-25, 25-15, 25-23, 15-11). The two teams battled for 26 tie scores in the match.

 Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, FR, Rochester, Mich.) led the Golden Eagles offensively with a career-high 15 kills. Swann also tallied three service aces and five block assists. Ashley Allen (OH, 5-11, SR, Buffalo, Minn.) followed Swann with 14 kills and Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, JR, Grand Rapids, Mich.) finished with 11 total kills. Setter Shannon Cologna (S, 5-6, JR, Peoria, Ariz.) set a match-high with 53 assists and defensively Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5-2, SR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the Golden Eagles with 14 defensive digs. As a team, UMC tallied 14 service aces in the match.

Jordan Spatenka led all players with 20 kills. Breanna Brandt led the Vikings with 31 assists while Grace Sanders led all players with 16 defensive digs.

The Golden Eagles are 3-18 overall and 0-9 in the NSIC while the Vikings advance to 9-12 overall and 4-5 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston hosts the University of Mary on Tuesday, October 13. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
