Huskies Defeat Golden Eagles at SCSU Homecoming

(St. Cloud, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston football team traveled to St. Cloud State University today to take on the Huskies in the SCSU Homecoming game. St. Cloud, who started the season 0-3 is now on a four game winning streak with a 65-7 victory over U of M, Crookston.

St. Cloud scored 55 unanswered points in the first half including 34 points in the first quarter. The Golden Eagles struck first in the third quarter when Keith McBride (RB, 5-11, 195, FR, Lodi, Wis.) capped off a nine play, 42-yard drive with a three yard touchdown rush. The Huskies would go on to score 10 more points to secure the NSIC victory.

McBride led the Golden Eagle offense with 19 rushes for 30 yards. Jerome Rodney (RB, 5-7, 200, JR, Mountain Lake, Minn.) rushed three times for 45 yards. Quarterback Tim Ennis (QB, 6-2, 205, JR, Lancaster, Calif.) completed seven passes for 55 yards. Scott Stenger (WR, 6-2, 190, SO, Watkins, Minn.) caught three passes for 24 yards. Cody Brekken (DB, 5-11, 190, JR, Crookston, Minn.) led the Golden Eagle defense with six total tackles.

St. Cloud was led by quarterback Mitch Watkins who completed seven passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. Dante Steward rushed the ball 10 times for 79 yards and a touchdown. Tyler NuQuay led the wide-outs with three receptions while Fred Williams caught two passes for 76 yards. Brad Wignes and Thomas Gruis led the Husky defense with eight total tackles each.

The Golden Eagles are 1-6 overall and 0-6 in the NSIC while the Huskies advance to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the NSIC. U of M, Crookston hosts Bemidji State on Saturday, October 17. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Ed Widseth Field.
