Golden Eagles Set Season High in Three Set Match Kills

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston and Upper Iowa University met tonight in an NSIC volleyball battle at Lysaker Gymnasium. The two teams played to 33 tie-scores and 12 lead changes in the match. The Golden Eagles also set a season high in three set match kills with 49. The previous high was 42 against Wayne, Neb. on September 4. The three sets were decided by no more than three points with the total point differential being just seven points as UIU snuck away with the teams fourth NSIC victory 3-0 (27-25, 30-28, 25-22).

The Golden Eagles had solid offensive productivity from Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, JR, Paxton, Neb.), Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, JR, Grand Rapids, Mich.), and Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, FR, Rochester, Minn.). Meyer led the team with 19 kills and a .333 (19K, 7E, 36TA) attack percentage. She recorded two service aces, a season-high three block solos and two block assists.  Krikke recorded 10 kills while Swann had nine kills in the match to go along with two service aces. Setter Shannon Cologna (S, 5-6, JR, Peoria, Ariz.) tallied a season three set match-high 44 assists on the night to lead all players. Leading the way in defensive digs was Jaclyn Slepicka (Lib., 5-2, SR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) with a match-high 12.

The Peacocks were led offensively by Nicky Brown who recorded 16 kills and a .371 (16K, 3E, 35TA) attack percentage. Kayla Wagner followed Brown with 11 kills and a solid .381 (11k, 3E, 27TA) attack percentage. Keri Vance did a majority of the UIU setting and ended the match with 41 set assists. Sara Vance baffled the defense with four service aces and led her team with 10 defensive digs in the match.

The Golden Eagles are 4-20 overall and 1-11 in the NSIC while the Peacocks advance to 13-14 overall and 4-9 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles return to the court tomorrow afternoon to host Winona State University. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
