Golden Eagle Men's Basketball Set to Open Regular Season on Saturday and Sunday

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Men's Basketball team will open the regular season on Saturday, November 21 and Sunday, November 22 when they host a pair of non-conference match-ups against the University of Minnesota Morris and Jamestown College respectively. Saturday's game will tip-off at  2 p.m. while Sunday's will begin at 4 p.m. at Lysaker Gymnasium

The Golden Eagles finished the 2008-2009 season with an overall record of 5-22 and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) record of 3-17. U of M, Crookston did close out the year on a high note defeating rival Minnesota State University Moorhead by a score 77-65.

The Golden Eagles return Akeem Cubie (Jr, G, Minneapolis, Minn.) who averaged 13.3 points per game and had 32 steals on the year and Adam Hendricks (Jr, Fwd, Watertown, Minn.) who averaged 7.6 points and 3.1 rebounds per game.

Golden Eagles vs. University of Minnesota Morris Saturday, November 22  2 p.m.

The Cougars finished the 2008-2009 season with an overall record of 14-13 and Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) record of 9-5. Top returnees include Daniel Fragodt who averaged 12.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game last season and Kendall Proell who averaged 11.9 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. The University of Minnesota Morris will have a two game regular season jump on the Golden Eagles as they host Concordia-Moorhead on Monday, November 16 and travel to Mayville State University on Thursday, November 19.

Golden Eagles vs. Jamestown College   Sunday, November 23  4 p.m.

The Jimmies have an overall record of 3-2 after defeating Viterbo University by a score of 66-61 on Friday. They also dropped an 86-61 exhibition game at Augustana College on Sunday. They play another exhibition game against Northern State University on Tuesday and host Peru State University in a regular season contest on Saturday. Jamestown College is led by Byron Jones who is averaging 17.2 points per game.
