Golden Eagles Can't Dig Up a Win Against Wildcat Defense

eagle 2color left.jpg(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Volleyball team entertained their parents and fans on Parent's Night at Lysaker Gymnasium this evening. The Wildcat defense played spoiler though as Wayne State tallied 45 defensive digs, only relinquished the lead three times and took the 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-7) NSIC victory.
 
The Golden Eagles were led offensively tonight by Amber Meyer (OH, 6-2, JR, Paxton, Neb.) who earned a team-high 11 kills. Doing the setting for U of M, Crookston was Shannon Cologna (S, 5-6, JR, Peoria, Ariz.) who recorded a team-high 18 assists, while Jaclyn Slepicka (LIB, 5-2, SR, Crystal Lake, Ill.) recorded a team-high nine digs.
 
Wayne State was led offensively by Jennifer Hefner and Tali Fredrickson. Hefner recorded 14 kills in the match and a .667 (14K-2E-18TA) attack percentage. Fredrickson slammed down 14 kills and earned a .520 (14K-1E-25TA) attack percentage. Tali Fredrickson also had a team high 16 defensive digs in the match. Doing a majority of the setting was Diedra Artz who tallied 40 assists on the 44 total Wayne State kills. As a team the Wildcats attacked at a .404 (44K-8E-89TA) clip and recorded eight total blocks (1 solo, 14 assisted).
 
The Golden Eagles are 6-25 overall and 3-16 in the NSIC while the Wildcats advance to 28-6 overall and 16-3 in the NSIC. Minnesota, Crookston closes out the 2009 season tomorrow afternoon with Senior Day against Augustana College. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
