Golden Eagles Shoot 34 Percent in Loss to Wayne State

(Wayne, Neb.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team had to wait an extra day to try and continue their stellar play. The game, scheduled for yesterday was postponed until 4:00 p.m. today due to inclement weather. The 22 hour layoff did not show kindly on the Golden Eagles as they shot 34 percent from the field in a 73-52 loss to the Wayne State Wildcats.

The Golden Eagles were led by Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) who scored a team-high 19 points on 9 of 14 shooting. Lauren Kessler (C, 6-1, FR, Albertville, Minn.) had her best game of the season this afternoon. She grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds, blocked a season-high four shots, and tallied eight points.

The Wildcats went on an 11-0 run in the first quarter to go up by 12 points and they did not relinquish the lead for the rest of the game. Wayne State was led by Ashley Arlen who scored 27 point and 13 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Clare Duwelius followed Arlen with 18 pionts.

The Golden Eagles advance to 6-7 overall this season and 4-3 in Northern Sun play. The Wildcats are 10-3 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Minnesota, Crookston travels to Sioux Falls, S.D. tomorrow to play Augustana College. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
