(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team hosted conference rival Bemidji State University this afternoon with a possible NSIC playoff berth at stake. Both teams played physical for 40 minutes and swapped leads seven times before the Golden Eagles took the lead for the final time on a Laurie Tyson (C, 6-1, FR, Rosemount, Minn.) free-throw shot at the 16:44 mark of the second half to go onto the 91-82 conference victory.
The duo of Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) and Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) led all players with 22 points each. Zabel scored 15 of her 22 in the second half and was 13-14 from the charity stripe while Zelinsky was 9-9 from the line and led all players with five assists. Kelsey Van Ackeren (G, 5-9, SR, St. Cloud, Minn.) and Gina Jaroszewski (F, 5-11, JR, Moorhead, Minn.) added 15 points each. Jaroszewski was 4 of 7 from the field and shot a season-high 4 of 6 from long range. Her 15 points were a season-high. Tyson led all players with nine rebounds including five offensive boards to go along with eight points.
The Beavers were led by Jessie Althoff's 21 points on 10 of 16 shooting. She was followed by Colleen McKay who earned 20 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
The Golden Eagles advance to 9-14 overall and 7-10 in Northern Sun play while the Beavers fall to 12-12 overall and 6-11 in conference play. Minnesota, Crookston returns to the court on Saturday, February 20 when they play St. Cloud State in St. Cloud, Minn. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
