(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team travels to Minnesota State and Southwest Minnesota State on Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6. This weekend's NSIC competition will be the most important of the season as it may hold playoff implications. The Golden Eagles are tied with Minnesota State and Northern State at 6-7 overall while Southwest Minnesota State has a slight edge at 7-6 in the NSIC.
Bri Zabel (F, 6-0, JR, Northfield, Minn.) had a solid weekend for the Golden Eagle Women's Basketball team. Zabel earned a game-high 18 points against Mary. She was 5 of 14 from the field, 4 of 6 from long range and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. She scored 12 points again Northern State to average 15 points/game. She was 5 of 7 from the free-throw line and was an outstanding 7 of 12 (.580) from beyond the arc. Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, JR, Brooklyn Park, Minn.) followed Zabel with 13.5 points/game and led the team with 12 assists and six steals. Zelinsky leads the squad with 16.4 points/game. She is tied for third in NSIC play averaging 18.1 points/game. She leads the team in assists with 49 and rebounds with 99 total boards. Zabel follows Zelinsky with 14.2 points/game and is tied for the team lead with 25 three-pointers and leads the team in free-throws made with 104. Brittani Wiese (G, 5-7, FR, Albertville, Minn.) closes out the top Golden Eagles scorers with 11.6 points/game.
Minnesota State is led by Liz Trauger's 14.4 points/game. She leads the Mavericks in field-goal percentage at .495, rebounds with 121 and blocked shots with 21. Jennie Noreen and Tiffany Moe follow Trauger with 13.5 and 13.4 points/game respectively. Noreen leads the team with 39 steals while Moe leads the team in assists with 105.
Southwest Minnesota State is led by Abby Kenealy who is averaging 12.6 points/game and leads the Mustangs with 20 blocked shots. Heather Smith and Tori Fink follow Kenealy with 11.2 and 10.9 points/game each. Fink also leads SMSU in steals with 40.
