Errors Doom Golden Eagle Baseball Squad in Florida

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team finally got to play after having four games cancelled at the Russ Matt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. Unfortunately for the Golden Eagles, their defense committed five errors as Hillsdale College jumped out to a 7-1 lead and held on for a 7-5 victory.

Steve Schroer  (So, RHP, Coon Rapids, Minn.) took the loss for U of M, Crookston surrendering seven runs (four earned) on six hits over seven innings. He struck out three and walked four. Nick Zawacki (Sr, RHP, Howell, Mich.) was solid in the final two innings allowing no runs or hits while striking out two. Erik Nockleby (So, OF, Roseville, Minn.) was 2-for-3 with a run batted in (RBI) for the Golden Eagles. Casey Woodside (So, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) added a double and an RBI.

Mike Vanchieri had two hits for Hillsdale College. Scott Lantis added a triple and four RBI.

U of M, Crookston falls to 2-5 while Hillsdale College improves to 3-9. The Golden Eagles return to action on Monday, March 15 when they face Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foe Augustana College in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 pm (CST) in Winter Haven, Fla.
