(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team earned a non-conference doubleheader split with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foe Northern State University (NSU) today at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. The Wolves took game one 7-5 while the Golden Eagles took the nightcap 4-1.

Game One Recap

U of M, Crookston out hit NSU ten to five but the Wolves took advantage of four Golden Eagle errors on their way to a 7-5 victory. Nathan Zacher was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in (RBI). Lucas Jung had a double and two RBI. Michael Gardner threw five innings allowing five runs (all earned) on nine hits to get the win. He struck out four and walked four. Jared Dickey threw the final two innings to get the save.

The Golden Eagles were led by Teddy Gutman (Sr, Of, Burlington, Iowa) who went 3-for-4 with two doubles. Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Erik Nockleby (So, OF, Roseville, Minn.) added two hits. Steve Schroer (So, RHP, Coon Rapids, Minn.) threw seven innings allowing seven runs (three earned) on five hits. He struck out two and walked five.

Game Two Recap

The Golden Eagles out hit the Wolves nine to five and took advantage of three Northern State University errors on their way to a 4-1 victory. Gutman, Nockleby, Casey Woodside (So, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) and P.J. Zwach (So, 3B, St. Paul, Minn.) each had two hits. Woodside had a triple and three RBI. Gutman added a triple. Zwach added an RBI. Paul Myers (So, RHP, Arden Hills, Minn.) was stellar on the hill allowing one run on five hits for the complete-game victory. He struck out three and walked three for his first career victory.

Lucas Jung had two hits for NSU including a double.

Northern State University falls to 1-5. U of M, Crookston improves to 1-3.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Thursday, March 4 when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout in a non-conference match-up at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.
