Golden Eagle Baseball Team Takes on UW-Stout on Thursday

(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Baseball team returns to non-conference action on Thursday, March 4 when they take on the University of Wisconsin-Stout at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. First pitch is scheduled for 11 a.m.

The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 1-3 after splitting a non-conference doubleheader with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foe Northern State University at the Metrodome on Sunday morning. U of M, Crookston dropped game one 7-5 before taking the night cap 4-1.

The Golden Eagles are led by Teddy Gutman (Sr, OF, Burlington, Iowa) who is hitting .538 (7-for-13). Erik Knockleby (So, OF, Roseville, Minn.) is hitting .353 (6-for-17). Devin Croal (So, SS, Coon Rapids, Minn.) is hitting .286 (4-for-14) with five runs batted in (RBI). Casey Woodside (So, C, Albert Lea, Minn.) is hitting .273 (3-for-11) with four RBI. On the hill, U of M, Crookston is led by Paul Myers (So, RHP, Arden Hills, Minn.) who has a record of 1-1 with a 4.61 earned run average (ERA). Myers has struck out seven and walked five. Steve Schroer (So, RHP, Coon Rapids, Minn.) has a record of 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA. Schroer has struck out five and walked eight.

The Blue Devils will be playing their season opener. They finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 18-18 and Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) record of 9-15. Brian Geibel hit .331 (45-for-136) with 25 RBI in 2009. Russ Jiskra was 2-4 on the mound with a 4.50 ERA. He struck out 42 and walked 30. UW-Stout defeated the Golden Eagles 2-0 and 8-1 last season.
