UMass-Lowell Takes Two Games from Golden Eagles

Stacey_Marcum10.jpg(Crookston, Minn.) - The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Softball team continued play at the Cocoa Expo today in a double-header against UMass-Lowell. The Riverhawks handled Minnesota, Crookston in the first game 7-0 and snuck away with a 3-2 victory in the second game.
 
Elyssa Boris threw a gem for UMass-Lowell as she held the Golden Eagles to one hit. The lone hit came from Sarena Diederichs (C, 5-8, JR, St. Cloud, Minn.) in the seventh inning. Erin Fowle (DP, 5-8, FR, Winnipeg, Manitoba) threw all seven innings giving up 12 hits and striking out six. Minnesota, Crookston left five runners on base.
 
Minnesota, Crookston rebounded in the second game to knock out seven hits. Unfortunately, the Golden Eagles couldn't make a comeback as they left seven runners on in the game. Krystal Plouff (OF, 5-2, SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) and Fowle both had two hits in the contest to lead UMC. Stacey Marcum (P, 5-7, Fr, Merrill, Wis.) drove in both runs with a double in the top of the sixth inning. Marcum also threw six innings giving up two earned runs and striking out two Riverhawks.
 
The Golden Eagles close out their Florida games tomorrow morning when they play Sweet Briar at 9:00 a.m. followed by Knox College at 11:00 a.m.
