(Crookston, Minn.)- University of Minnesota, Crookston Head Football Coach Shannon Stassen and his coaching staff held a youth football camp on May 24-25. The camp was held at the Crookston Sports Center and the UMC Campus. The camp was held for boys and girls from kindergarten through sixth grade and ran from 6-8 p.m. each day.
 
A total of 69 young athletes battled the elements and participated in the two-day camp, up from 59 last year. Skills covered by Coach Stassen and his staff included the fundamentals of passing, receiving, basic stances, proper footwork, offensive and defensive drills and proper tackling form. There were competition drills that included an obstacle course and a football toss drill. The skill sessions were followed by thirty minutes of ultimate touch football.
 
"We had a tremendous turnout this year even with the bad weather on Monday. Utilizing the Crookston Sports Center allowed us to keep the camp on schedule which helped with the high number of participants," says assistant coach and camp organizer Justin Schreiber. "Our ultimate goal is for the kids have fun and learn a couple things about the game of football. Many of the campers play NFL Youth Football in the fall and we look forward to working with them again when the league starts on Sunday, September 12 at Ed Widseth Field."
