Golden Eagle Football and Volleyball Teams Prepare for 2010 Campaign

(Crookston, Minn.)- The fall sports season is just around the corner and nowhere is this more evident than on the campus of the University of Minnesota, Crookston. Golden Eagle football and volleyball coaches are busy preparing for preseason practices as the fall athletes arrive to campus this week.
 
The Golden Eagle Football staff is preparing for over 80 athletes to arrive on campus on Wednesday, August 11. The team will open with meetings on the 11th and begin practice on Thursday the 12th. Top returners on offense include Keith McBride (RB, 5-11, 195, SO, Lodi, Wis.) and Jordan Lecher (WR, 6-3, 195, JR, Litchfield, Minn.). Top defensive returners include Cody Brekken (DB, 5-11, 190, SR, Crookston, Minn.), Cory Weisner (DL, 6-1, 280, JR, Hugo, Minn.) and Cecil Brown (DB, 5-10, 205, SO, Edison, Ga.).
 
Golden Eagle Football opens the 2010 season at home in a non-conference game against Mayville State on Thursday, September 2. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Ed Widseth Field. U of M, Crookston will celebrate Homecoming on Saturday, September 25. The Golden Eagles host the Dragons of MSU Moorhead with a start time of 1 p.m.
 
The Golden Eagle Volleyball team arrives to campus on Saturday, August 14th with the first practice on Monday, August 16th. Top returners for Golden Eagle Volleyball are Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, SR, Grand Rapids, Mich.), Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, SR, Peoria, Ariz.), Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, SO, Rochester, Mich.) and Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, SO, Burlington, Wis.).
 
Golden Eagle Volleyball team opens the season with nine games on the road including their first game against American International College at the Northern Michigan Invite in Marquette, Mich. First serve is scheduled for 9 a.m. The Golden Eagles open NSIC play at MSU Moorhead on Tuesday, September 14th. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. The team hosts Minnesota Duluth on Friday, September 17th at 7 p.m. U of M, Crookston returns to Lysaker Gymnasium on the 18th to host Bemidji State at 4 p.m.
