(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston volleyball team opened the 2010 season at the Northern Michigan Invite where UMC did battle with the likes of American International University, UW-Parkside, Lake Superior State and host Northern Michigan. Another non-conference tournament is in store for the Golden Eagles this weekend in St. Louis, Mo. at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Invite. The Golden Eagles will play two games on Friday, September 10. The team opens against the University of Illinois-Springfield at 10 a.m. followed by Southern Indiana at 3 p.m. UMC returns to the court on Saturday, September 11 to play host University of Missouri-St. Louis at 9 a.m. followed by the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith at 2 p.m.
The Golden Eagles were led at the Northern Michigan Invite last weekend by Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, So, Burlington, Wis.) who tallied 23 kills in 12 sets for a 1.92 K/S. Alexandra Skeeter (OH, 5-10, Fr, Milwaukee, Wis.) led the squad in kills/set with 2.00 and finished with 22 total kills. Kelsey Matykowski (S, 5-7, So, Sun Prairie, Wis.) paced the team in assists with 70, a 5.83 A/S average. Defensively Chelsea Wiesner (DS, 5-8, Fr, Rochester, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles with 53 defensive digs for a 4.42 Dig/S average.
The Golden Eagles open NSIC play at MSU Moorhead on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. The squad returns home that weekend to host Minnesota Duluth on Friday, September 17 at 7 p.m. and Bemidji State on Saturday, September 18 at 4 p.m.
