Dragons Rally to Defeat Golden Eagle Men 84-76

(Crookston, Minn.)- Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) outscored the University of Minnesota, Crookston 45-32 in the second half to rally from a five-point halftime deficit as the Dragons defeated the Golden Eagles 84-76 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Men's Basketball action today in Moorhead, Minn.

U of M, Crookston came out firing in the first half shooting a blistering 65.5 percent (19-for-29) from the field to take a 44-39 lead into the half. Roles were reversed in the second half as MSUM shot 60.9 percent (14-for-23) from the field while holding the Golden Eagles to 38.7 percent (12-for-31).

The Dragons were led by Andrew Van Havermaet who scored a game-high 30 points (11-for-15) including shooting 8-for-12 from three-point range. Dennis Williamson (8-for-13) and Jake Driscoll (4-for-15) each added 19 points. Driscoll was 8-for-10 from the charity stripe.

U of M, Crookston was led by Matthew Heier (Sr, G, Ray, N.D.) with 14 points (5-for-11) including shooting 4-for-7 from three-point range. He also added four assists. Damarius Cruz (Fr, G, Plymouth, Minn.) scored 13 points (6-for-9) while Adam Hendricks (Jr, F, Watertown, Minn.) added 12 points (5-for-9).

MSUM improves to 6-10 overall and 3-6 in the NSIC. The Golden Eagles fall to 3-12 overall and 0-9 in the NSIC.

U of M, Crookston returns to NSIC action on Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23 when they host Upper Iowa University and Winona State University respectively. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday and 6 p.m. on Saturday.
