Golden Eagle Bats Come Alive in Split with Mayville State

Thumbnail image for Kayla_Bowar10.jpg(Mayville, N.D.) - The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Softball team traveled to Mayville, N.D. on Wednesday to play Mayville State in a non-conference double-header. The Golden Eagles gave up seven run in the first inning of the first game but battled back before falling 13-9. Minnesota, Crookston kept the bats alive and took the night cap 8-2 in a game shortened by darkness.
 
Game 1: The Golden Eagles knocked out a season-high 15 hits and nine RBI in the first contest of the afternoon. UMC was led by Kayla Bowar (SS, 5-4, JR, Moorhead, Minn.) and Erin Fowle (P, 5-8, FR, Winnipeg, Manitoba) who were both 3 for 4 in the contest. Bowar also drove in two RBI. Sarena Diederichs (C, 5-8, JR, St. Cloud, Minn.) was 2 for 4 in the game with a team-high three RBI.
 
Game 2: Minnesota, Crookston carried the bats over to game two with five runs in the first inning. Fowle shut the Comets down allowing just two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out three batters. Diederichs was 2 for 3 and tied a game-high two runs scored with Kayla Bowar. The Golden Eagles hit two homeruns in the game. Krystal Plouff (OF, Sarena_Diederichs10.jpg5-2, SO, Forest Lake, Minn.) hit the first one in the first inning and she was followed by Kayla Bowar who hit hers in the fourth inning.
 
The Golden Eagles were led on the day by Kayla Bowar who hit .667 (4-6) with three RBI, three runs scored, one double and one homerun. She tallied a 1.333 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. Erin Fowle earned the victory in the second game and helped her cause batting .571 (4-7) with two run scored and one RBI. Sarena Diederichs also hit .571 (4-7) with one triple, four RBI, three runs scored and a .857 slugging percentage.
 
The Golden Eagles are now 4-12 on the season and 0-4 in NSIC play. Minnesota, Crookston returns to the field on Saturday, April 10 when they play Concordia- St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. in an NSIC double-header. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
