(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Hunt Seat Equestrian team travels to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone 9 Championships hosted by Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. on Saturday, April 10 and Sunday, April 11.
The Golden Eagles qualified for the Zone Championships by winning the Regional Title. They will be represented by: Jessica Biddle (Sr, Elburn, Ill.) (Open Equitation on the Flat and Open Equitation Over Fences), Sara Wells (Sr, Calgary, Alb.) (Intermediate Equitation on the Flat and Intermediate Equitation Over Fences), April Jordan (Fr, Beaver Dam, Wis.) (Novice Equitation Over Fences), Jessica Charles (Fr, Belgrade Lakes, Maine) (Novice Equitation on the Flat), Katelyn Muller (So, Belle Plaine, Minn.) (Walk Trot Canter) and Anna Steen (So, Hanover, Minn.) (Walk Trot).
Should U of M, Crookston finish in the top two, they will go on to compete at the IHSA National Championships in Lexington, Kentucky from May 6-9. Individuals that qualified and will be looking to qualify for a spot at the National Championships are Jessica Charles (Walk Trot Canter), Heather Fogelson (So, Grant, Minn.) (Novice Equitation Over Fences), Lauren Snively (So, Herndon, Vir.) (Novice Equitation Over Fences) and Nicole Veres (Sr, Random Lake, Wis.) (Intermediate Equitation on the Flat and Intermediate Equitation Over Fences).
"I am very proud of how well these student-athletes have trained and competed this past year," says Golden Eagle Head Coach Brooke Leininger. "I expect them to do very well this weekend. This is such a great accomplishment for the team and these individuals."
