Golden Eagle Women's Basketball Opens 2010-11 Campaign on October 15

Zelinsky_Jamie10.JPG(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Basketball team begins full team practices this Friday, October 15 in Lysaker Gymnasium on the UMC campus. The Golden Eagles open the season on November 2 with an exhibition game against North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The squad starts the NSIC season on December 3 when UMC travels to Minnesota, Duluth to play the Bulldogs. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. The first home game for Minnesota, Crookston is on December 8 when UMC hosts Dickinson State in a non-conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. The Dragons of MSU Moorhead come to town on December 11 to open the NSIC home schedule in a 2 p.m. start at Lysaker Gymnasium.
 
The Golden Eagles will be led this season by senior Jamie Zelinsky (G, 5-11, SR,Wiese_Brittani10.JPG Brooklyn Park, Minn.) and sophomore Brittany Wiese (G, 5-7, SO, Albertville, Minn.). Zelinsky started all 27 games and finished the season with a team-high 16.4 points/game average, good for third in the NSIC. She scored her 1,000th point on December 20 against Dickinson State and moved into second place all-time in scoring at the University of Minnesota, Crookston with 1,302 points. Zelinsky led the team in field goals made with 161 and in rebounds with 146. She dished out a team-high 70 assists and blocked a team-high 17 shots and was named to the NSIC All-Conference Second Team. Wiese had a very strong freshman season. She started in 22 of the 27 games played and was third on the team in scoring, averaging 11.2 points/game. She was second on the team with 109 field goals made, second in steals with 35 and third on the team in assists with 58 and was named to the NSIC All-Freshmen Team.
