(Crookston, Minn.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Women's Soccer team celebrated a spectacular fall day by breaking into the win column for the first time this season with a 2-1 come from behind victory over Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) today in Crookston, Minn. The victory also gives the Golden Eagles their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) victory of the season.
U of M, Crookston and MSUM nearly played to a scoreless tie in the first half before the Dragons got a goal from Tricia Vanyo with just 34 second remaining in the half off an assist from Jordyn Wollenborn.
The Golden Eagles wasted little time in evening the score in the second half as Ashley Sletten (So, F, Glenwood, Minn.) scored off an assist from Jessica Goodrich (Fr, F, Munster, Ind.) at 46:47. Goodrich scored the game winner at 54:07 off an assist from Megan Flynn (So, M, Chanhassen, Minn.) to give U of M, Crookston its first victory of the season.
Anna Ogaard (Sr, GK, Maple Grove, Minn.) was stellar in net recording ten saves for the Golden Eagles. Alison Wanner had seven saves for MSUM.
U of M, Crookston improves to 1-9-2 overall and 1-6-0 in the NSIC. MSUM falls to 0-10-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the NSIC.
The Golden Eagles return to NSIC action on Saturday, October 16 and Sunday October 17 when they travel to Minnesota State University and Southwest Minnesota State University respectively. Both matches begin at 1 p.m.
