(Aberdeen, S.D.)- The University of Minnesota, Crookston Volleyball team traveled to Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D. for a mid-week NSIC match-up with the Wolves. The two teams combined for 14 tie scores in the first set with NSU defeating UMC 26-24. A combination of Northern State offensive and defensive play slowed the Golden Eagle offense with NSU taking the final two sets 25-10, 25-11.
The trio of Alexandra Skeeter (OH, 5-10, Fr., Milwaukee, Wis.), Alyssa Krikke (MH, 6-0, Sr., Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Amanda Swann (OH, 6-0, So., Rochester, Mich.) led the Golden Eagle offense with six kills each. Krikke paced UMC with a .385 (6K-1E-13TA) attack percentage and three block assists. Setter Shannon Cologna (S, 5-8, Sr., Peoria, Ariz.) assisted on 22 of the Golden Eagle's 27 kills. Danielle Rueter (OH, 5-9, So., Burlington, Wis.) played strong defensively with a season-high 18 digs.
Northern State was led by Jordan Schaffer's 12 kills. She was followed by Konefesi Vaisigano's 10 kills and .400 (10K-2E-20TA) attack percentage. Setter Megan Gilbraith led the Wolves with 22 assists while Ella Cambell led the defense with 20 defensive digs.
The Golden Eagles are 0-18 overall and 0-10 in NSIC play. Northern State advances to 10-9 overall and 2-8 in conference play. Minnesota, Crookston returns home this weekend to host Wayne State College and Augustana College on October 15 and 16. Game times are set for 7 p.m. and 4 p.m. respectively.
